Buy a 939socket CPU or wait for AMD2? help

Thread Starter
well im about to make a new PC for myself, one that will tear through any new game that comes out for hopefully years to come. My price limit is $2300, and i was wondering if i should wait for the AMD2 processors to come out and buy one of those, or just wait for them to come out because ppl are saying the 939 socket CPUs will drop $100's in price. Im not really smart when it comes to hardware, so how much does your CPU play in playing high-end games? I thought most of the work was put on GPU's, thats why in this build i was hoping to include a 7900GTX 512MB card, followed by another for SLi when i get the money

It's a tough call from your point of view.
Yes the prices should drop some.
Look at this though, high end DDR that OCes real high is getting scarser.
So if your going to go 939 do it and get it over with.
The advantages of the M2 and DX10... all that will take a while to come to fruitation much like the 64 bit aspect which is still draging far behind.

Here are the things you should ask at when considering an upgrade:

1. Do the programs that I use require an increase in performance in order to increase my satisfaction of said programs? If yes, go to question two. If no, then do not upgrade.

2. Am I able to overclock my current system to specifications that would increase its performance and thus increase my satisfaction of programs I use to a tolerable level? If yes, spend little money and more time on materials to overclock instead of upgrading your system. If no, then go to question three.
3. Does the requirement for an increase in performance justify the necessary cost associated with upgrading? Will I get enough of an increase in performance from upgrading? If yes, go to question four. If no, do not upgrade.

4. Based on speculative knowledge, would an upgrade a later date be to my advantage because current technology prices would be lower, allowing me to get what is now current technology in the future for a fraction of the cost in order to increase performance? If yes, do not upgrade now, but wait until prices on 939 drops a little. If no, go to question five.

5. Based on speculative knowledge, would an upgrade a later date be to my advantage because newer technology will be significantly better than current technology? Will my resulting satisfaction be high enough to justify paying for newer technology? If yes, do not upgrade now, but wait until the new chips come out to upgrade. If no, repeat question four.
