a 5600 is so ancient in today's technology, you would be blown away by a newer card. I thought the performace boost between my 9800pro and 6800GS was incredible (although my CPU is somewhat bottlenecking my system). but for a lot of games, the graphics card is the most important thing.

and get the lead out of that CPU and OC it

OK, so realated question, I ve got an amd 64 x2 3800, factory 2ghz, oced to 2.4 for normal use. How much is this bottlenecking the performance of my 7800gt? And if it is, what do I do? I think the highest any one has got this 3800 x2 is 2.9, and it wasnt very stable. I jsut bought this cpu, and love it, but I want the most from my gfx card.

Your ram is the bigger issue here.

I know, but after buying the new mobo, cpu, case, and gfx card, the wife capped me and said I had to wait awhile for that. When i do, I m going 4gb of 3200.

But anyways, how much is my cpu bottlenecking my card?

I personally think anything over your current video card would be amazing.

you said you got X2 3800+, that's way more than it needs (3800 > 3200)

Dude, look at my rig. It's the poster child for bottlenecks. A Venice 3000+ at 2.7 and Centon ram running a 217mhz, lol. And it STILL PLAYS EVERYTHING I'VE EVER LOADED MAXED OUT.

So yes, take that 2.8, throw in a 6800GT or 7800GT and enjoy Then, if you get that Prescott (I'm assuming?) to 3.2-3.4, you'd be good to go dude
