Ups

Thread Starter
I need to get a UPS for my system. i have a Antec 550w power supply. I notice most of the UPSs for under a $100 are 350w or less. Do I need a UPS rated at 550w to match my power supply or are the diffenrnces I see the AC to DC voltage changes?

Thanks,
My System

The UPS power rating does not need to match that of your PSU. The UPS is used as a backup/surgeprotector so you only need one large enough to run your system for a few minutes in case of a power outage, unless you want to run your PC and components for hours after a blackout. This of course depends on what you use your PC for too; if running a server type PC then you may need the longer battery life, but if running a simple desktop all you need is about 30min. or so which should be enough time to safeguard your work. I have the same PSU you have and run my PC, monitor, speakers, and all-in-one printer out of a 650VA UPS (about 390W) which gives me about 20 minutes battery life, more than enough to finish what I'm doing at the moment. You shouldn't get a small one either since it will lack the necessary juice. In the end it's all about what you prefer and what you need. I recommend a UPS with a minimun rating of 500VA.
