HL2 crashing!

I am on the "our benefactors" level, but the game keeps freezing on me! It seems that when ever I use the gravity gun to shoot a generator orb at someone, the game locks up! I am getting REALLY pissed off! Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this??

Its not a problem with my computer being unstable, if thats what you mean. The computer doesnt lock up, HL2 just crashes.

I had the same problem as you with a different game. What i did is this:

-checked GPU temps
-cleaned off all old drivers
-reinstalled drivers
-put the original CDROM of the game back in and repaired the game files by installing again. This way it didn't delete my old saves and what not.

I don't think HL2 has this feature on the disks so my suggestion would be look in the directory folder for your save files. Take the most recent one and put it onto your desktop. Then uninstall the game completely and reinstall. Add the save file back into the directory and it should work. It may be a long shot, but I think it would work for you.

Also I am interested in your GPU temps, what are they just to make sure? And there is no artifacting i assume right?

I am trying a re-install as a type this, so I hope that will work. GPU temps are fine, no artifacting. My entire rig is at stock right now, so there should not be any stablility issues.

Ok I just wanted to make sure and rule that out. Make sure since you are reinstalling that you don't mess up your save files though!

I already have them backed up! Valve really should have made it so that the saves stayed with your steam account, though
