vf700 installation problems! :(

Hi

I am new to the forums.
I recently purchased a new computer and I purchased the Sapphire X800 GTO2 vid card. Specifically to OC it to X850 specs.

I just bought a Zalman VF700 and I installed the cooler following the instructions step by step. This is my first time installing a VGA cooler on a vid card.

I am having problems as my temps are increasing like crazy when I havent even OCd anything. I use ATItools to monitor the heat and it spikes from 33 degrees idle to 44 degrees when i select 'show 3d object' and continues to rise.

The fan works fine on the cooler...its running in silent mode. I cant understand why it isnt working properly. I am pretty sure the base of the zalman is touching the GPU as i have tried about 5 times to install it. All 5 times with pretty much the same results.

Is it me? or is it defective in some way? If anyone has installed this cooler on an x800 and could give me some advice that would be great appreciated!

Thanks for any help.

33c Idle is a fantastic temp. Lowest temps I have gotten are 42c idle. Same things happens to me when I open 3d view. It jumps 10c in about 8-10sec.

Thanks evolutionsentra

But when I try to OC the card using ATItools. It runs for about 5 min, reaches 60 degrees and then shuts off. I cant reach anywhere near other ppls speeds. The highest I got on the core was 440Mhz. I also tried touching the zalmans heat sinks and they are still cool to the touch? is that normal also?

ahh so many questions! sorry im still new to all this. Hopefully soon i wont be asking all these ridiculous questions.

My GTO2 also has those temp. spikes, 34*C idle then 44*C in 3 seconds. Try scaning for MAX Core and MAX Memory on ATITool. You shouldn't worry about temps. until they reach like 70-75*C under load.
If you don't mind, take a few seconds to fill in your system specs. in your user profile.

you should be able to hit 500 core at least unless you got a bogus gto2. does it have a power connector? did the core say r480 when you put the zalman on?

yes i had one with the zalman and low 30's idle is normal and it got to mid to high 40's, might have even cracked 50 celsius once in a while so dont worry unless it gets to 65-70.

Thanks alot everyone

The GPU says r430. And i ran PCmarks05 and it said that its a X850 chip with X800 driver. I am going to unlock the pipes later on.
No time right now. Damn university.

I am gonna try running ATItools again and OCing some more.
Right now im at 420 Core and 520Mem.
I guess im scared because its my first card and all and first time Ocing.
I just ran 3Dmarks06 and got a 1536 score. No idea if thats good or not. Doesnt seem too good. The last 2 tests seemed killer and i wasnt even getting 1fps.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think this summer with more time I will be able to learn more and OC everything This sure is fun!

Ok well when i run ATITools the max mem is around 530 and then the card stops responding. When I run the max core it gets to about 480 and stops responding. Is there something else I need to do in the bios maybe? my temps arent even that high. They get to about 55 and then it stops responding?

My fan is also at 100%

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks again

3dMark06 uses SM3 for some of its test, which the x800 doesn't have. For an unlocked GTO that score seems fine.
The problems you are having while overclocking do seem odd. When my card stops responding like that it's usually because I set the clocks to high. Maybe you reached your max? Also, by chance do you happen to have your CPU overclocked? ATITool (or any intense 3d app. for that matter) tends to crash/lockup when your system is unstable.

hello there if there are dumb man then it will be the one that like to play with incompatble parts for a video card and do not use ATITOOLS it is ***** and wil not work on new cards only on agp video cards, my advice put the orginele cooler back on the vid card and clock it manually

you can go 5% up on the gpu and 10% up on the ddr memory

i hope for you the x800 gt02 is not broke
