Help me understand graphics cards technical aspects further!

Sorry to make a new thread, but I didn't think anyone would really visit my old thread anymore if I posted in there. This deals with more specific details, as well as the relation between card technologies and speeds.

Ok, first I'd like to know how the cards' memory works with the GPU. For example, your CPU and your standard DDR system memory work together best in syncronization (eg - a 1:1 ratio for FSB and memory speed is the best). Does the graphics unit follow a similar principle?

Second, I was told on another forum that two 6600GT's in SLI would be just a bit slower than a 6800GT, but after looking at the speeds of each card on Newegg, I'd think that two 6600GTs would easily beat a single 6800GT. How much do pixel pipelines really affect cards is my question here, because on the 6800GT the extra pipelines look like they're the only thing that would really make some sort of large performance boost compared to the 8 pipelines on a 6600GT.

first of all two card will NOT give you 200% pref... so dont just double the specs... you will get something like 140% pref...

They work in tandem.

SLI will not combine the horsepower of the video cards into one. It just splits the work load into two, so overall image quality it would be the same almost.

That's why you see a few people saying that a 6600 GT in SLI will not be faster than a single 6800 GT.

So it should be around a 140% speed with two cards in general for all SLI setups, or those cards in particular? I'd guess in general.

And I've been told that the GPU and graphics memory work individually, so syncronized speeds would not give any performance increase, but I still don't know the procedures/step/methods/whatever that they take to do the work. They work together in SOME way, obviously, to transmit the data.
