3 months ago my old p3 had finally died on me and i needed a back up pc for stuff that isn't online and a one to use when i tinker with the athlon. I went to wally world and found a tower only 3200+ sempron from compaq for 270 bucks. Nice price just for something as a back up. I built my new rig the next month but I couldnt help but want to oc the sempron, but one prob the lovely factory locked bios. I let it sit and last week when I got my new mobo and case is in I switched out all the stuff and started breaking er in. I can say I was pleasantly suprised with the results at stock i used a rather remedial test because my vid card on this sucks and the graphics test wouldnt do the results any justice. Stock super pi score was a sad 51. I removed all the resource hogging software and then got a 50, sadly not much improvement. I sstarted out at a 21c temp for the CPU and stock speeds of 1.8ghz. Vcore was 1.4 for semprons. I started with a 166/333 divider and started raising the FSB. 210, 220, 230, all stable for a quick 10 min sp2004 run so i pushed further.

250 and stable.

265 and stable (and after this it didnt like any more vcore or and more tinkering might be in order)

Final temps were 28 full load and 22 idle very little flucuation at all. Final super pi score I got was 40, a whopping 11 sec improvement. The 256 cache reall does hurt the performance but I can really notice the performance boost with this upgrade. This is a oem only chip from what I've seen and you can get the 3300+ and 3400+. If you find one its a damn nice overclocker and runs extremely cool on just a zalman cu HS/FAN. Ill replace the vid card today ad post some other 3d scores.

I will mess with it a bit later today.I need ot mess with the vcore and some more stting but in 15 min it was stable was at a 30% overclock and stable and cooler than my 3500 lol. Ive been neglecting my new dfi board and tt Typhoon to see what this can do. All I can say is damn Lian Li makes a nice case. I love mine i got a couple days ago. Ill post back tonight on maybe 2.5 for the sempron.
