? about gigabyte GA-K8n Pro sli and OC'ing

Thread Starter
so i built my first computer ever last month. after having it now for a month i desire more out of my system. I have an amd athlon 3700+ that i'd like to OC to 2.4-2.5 but for some reason my motherboard wont' let me go past 2.32 by changing the frezuency to 210 from 200. after 210 it wont' boot up anymore. Since i dont' really knwo what i'm doing i know theres somethings i can still do to get it up to 2.4 but i'm unsure what to do. Do i need to buy a new motherboard that can overclock or do i just need to adjust a few settings with my ram or HT?

Well first thing is there will be a HT multi that will be set at stock x5 lower it to x4, it might have a diffrent name in your bios. Put the ram on a divider. The divider will be a ratio of how fast you ram runs compared to the CPU fsb. Set it at 166/333 or it might say 5:6 divider. One step lower than stock to take your ram out of the equation. See what kind of louck you have, watch the temps and test with sp 2004

I would STRONGLY recomend An A8N Sli premium board, especially if you want to overclock, I was able to hit 285Mhz FSB(and could go a lot higher if cpu would allow), a lot of voltage options and very easy to browse bios. it was perfect for me!

Asus has the best software support I've seen in a lot of manufacturers

Sli premium goes for 165 US $ before shipping and tax, so around 200 shipped and taxed (x2 supp, sli ready, gigabit lan, 8 channel audio)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131540

Or for less expensive, 122 US$ before shipping and tax, This DFI board can be modded to SLI and has X2 support aswell as gigabit lan and 8 channel audio
You may need a bios update if the board is not in the new batch with the new bioses but hey, its easy, you dont even need to have a processor installed to flash the bios.

Hello,

I have this board, I am at 2.4 on my X2 3800 and stable as.
It was my memory that was holding me back the first time. So I bought new stuff.

Also, my board is really picky about the HT multi, won't work on anything above 3X. I have had it running at 275FSB with a low CPU multi and 1:1 ram.
My ram is the shiz!!
Anyway, back to topic.
Try lowering your multi to 3X then upping your FSB with your CPU multi on low and your memory divider on something like 2:1 or something really low.
I think you'll find it's your ram.

My thoughts are from experience only.
