There is no way of knowing. They may produce less heat at the same frequency, but there is no way of knowing how much.

IF AMD is already trying to do battle with Conroe then that means that AMD is nervous that they'll get dominated mid quarter. I want raw down to earth performance for what i buy, even if AMD processors dish out 10w less heat but conroe still leaves AM2 in the dust ill be buying me a conroe. They both obviously have stuff that they wont release "just in case".

Now when they say Nanometres / Nanometers, is the processor itself smaller?

I'm not exactly sure of what it means.

Nanometers is refering to the size of the transistors in the processor. I think a processor has about 300 million transistors or so, and they're all tiny. The smaller they are, the less heat the processor will produce typically. The processors themselves won't be smaller, but they will contain more transistors and produce less heat.

Erm did you read my post? The X2 5000+ is at 2.6 ghz. Now look at this.

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=850

Given each new processor is a 100mhz increase, that still puts the FX-64 at 3.0. But if AMD still goes, which is 99.9% likely by 200mhz that puts the FX-64 at 3.4 ghz STOCK. Now I dont know exactly what they will be clocked at, but thats what it looks like. So never say that they will never do it, because AM2 is where AMD is putting their money, I think they know what they are doing.

It is the spacing between the transistors. The processor itself is not smaller, just the components in it. By making the spacing smaller 3 things happen:

1.You can cram more transistors on the processor
2. It is cheaper to make the processor.
3. More efficient, less electricity is lost from resisitance, less heat.

oh man, think about the overclocks on lower power consumptions. I cant wait, i think i will tradeout my X2 3800 for the lower power counterpart, it should deliver more performance out of the same voltage am I right?

I hope AMD gets with it! If Intel is selling 45nm and AMD is still playing with 90nm they are introuble!
