Vantec Tornado

Thread Starter
I have two 80mm spots for case fans, currently they're occupied by Arctic Cooling 80mm Fans, while insanely quiet, move little to no air. Noise is no longer an issue for me. I do, however, have two vantec Tornado 80mm fans just lying around. One of the 80mm spots blows directly onto the video card sink, I was wondering if replacing the AC's with the Vantecs would reduce my temps dramaticly, enough for overclocking. Or would it just be unneeded noise?

It depends on how hot you're case and components are getting. Download a temp monitoring program, or, old fashion, discharge yourself and see how hot your card is. If it's burning, then yeah, the fan will help. If it's just warm or so, then probably not.

I had a Vantec Tornado on my XP-90c with no fan controler, and it was WAY to loud. It sounded like a turbine jet in my computer, so I took it out.

Yup, Vantec Torandos got their name for a reason. You think you wouldn't mind the noise, then you install it...

I could hear my old 92mm tornado from down the hall with the tv on too.

Vantec was my friend for 6 months.
I was able to clock to my current specs, but There is a good side and a bad side to this,

Good side:
I was running 2 80mm intakes, 2 80mm exhaust, 1 lower 80mm intake and lo and behold 1 92mm on my XP90 heat sink. I had to run 2 Nexus fan controllers to operate them all.
Now for the bad side.
Vantec Tornado's are very load. With all those babies hooked up running on low. I could not sleep with the computer on.
With these puppies cranked up full blast. My system was loader then my vacuum. ((I'm not kidding))
So much air wash being pushed thru my system you could hand glide in side my case.

I am so glad i went to water

I use my 80mm Tornado to blast the dust out of my case. Other than that, it sits in the drawer under the computer.

Just a half hour ago, I was cleaning out my case and I decided to attach the Tornado to a cardboard air duct I made so it draws air from an opening in the back of the case and forces it directly on my AeroFlow with the TMD fan removed. I dropped the temps at full load 7°C but it stayed the same as the normal fan on idle (30°C)

The noise was annoying my mother so I finally disconnected it and put the TMD back on. I couldn't hear the CD I was playing anyway.

I know my friend Alexander (Xypex 982 here) has a 92mm tornado in his computer that runs at full power all the time. Every time I go to his house, I could hear it halfway up the stairs.

If you undervolt a vantec to the 5v line it still pushed a good deal of air and its quiet

Aw man, you beat me to it! That's exactly what I have done in the past. Undervolt them and they still push a good deal of air and are MUCH quieter.
