This guide will tell you where to cut corners and what config options will
help you the most for trading off performance for graphic quality.

Of course upgrading your rig is always a nice option as well.
Heh, I just did that! The rig in my signature was purchased pretty much to play Oblivion (and others, of course). It was what I could afford. I purchased the 1950XT specifically because it runs Oblivion better than any other card in its price range.

I built my system based on wanting to play Oblivion as well! As good
excuse as any.

For the popping up problem - have you got EVERY distance slider all the way to the right?

If not, thats why. Grass, Tree and Actor distances seem to have the most impact on performance.

Object distance controls the "popping up" distance of things like buildings, fences and rocks etc. So that has the biggest visual affect.

OK, this may have been asked before, but are there any guilds that are mutually exclusive? Right now I'm in the mages, fighters, blades, arena, and working on the Knights of the Nine. If I join the Brotherhood and/or theives guild, will that screw any other guildes up?

Only in the sense the brotherhood may want you to do something that could get you ejected from another guild possibly. Other then that they don't care what other guilds you're in.

OK. So maybe I should complete the other quests first?

It is proablly better to compleate the guilds one at a time, but even if you do get kicked out for some reason you can usually make it up somehow.

BTW now that i think of it, one of the thieves guild quests has you steal a mage's staff, which would probally get you kicked out of the mage guild. I'm sure there are other conflicts like that between the guilds.

I beg to differ. The mages relocate for this quest, and Traven is asleep when you are supposed to steal it. Just be careful, and you won't get caught.
