New heatsink, crap temps!

Thread Starter
Just installed my BigTyphoon.

My new idle temp (without an overclock now), is 38. My previous idle with my xp-120 was 30. Why would the temp go up so much? This is now on stock voltage...soooooo...it shouldn't be hotter. I installed it the K8 alternate method...but did include the foam and plastic piece....what did i do wrong?

Take it off and re seat it. When seating a heatsink just the slightest turn or misplaced screw will screw it up. And did you reapply as5? If so, it takes time to cure.

Ya, I put AS5 again...that seems odd that one little turn would screw it up that bad? I've done this before, but never had this kind of problem.

Could it be the CFM? Could it make that much of a difference? My last fan was a panaflo M1A...

try resetting the CMOS. After removing the CPU from the socket, like you usually do during a heatsink change, the CMOS should be reset. Incorrect temps are usually the result if you don't.

If you reapplied as5 than thats probably it. Let the comp run over night on stock speeds. It takes 200 hours for it to cure completely, than you'll see temps go down. And i was exaggerating, one little turn isnt gonna mess it u that bad, but if it isnt seated erfectly you wont get the best performance.

I didn't take the CPU out...the heatsink didn't stick to it, so I left it in lmao...just wiped off the top with alcohol.

OH, and to the other guy...I'll try reseating it tonight if all else fails...cause this thing takes like 10 minutes to put on...
