Thanks, that's exactly what I was trying to do. One should never use anger and harsh words no matter how right or wrong someone is. They turn an intellectual discussion into a hate war.

As you kind of said, I will most likely receive a new 980x from Intel within 24 hours if this one happens to fail, so the lifespan isn't really that important. It's also only going to be at most about 1.43-1.45v for 5ghz 24/7. If I was going to be keeping this cpu for more than 2 or 3 years and I didn't get a free replacement, I would definitely be using water cooling as you suggested.

Thank you for keeping this thread clean. No one should really be blaming you for possibly deleting one or two posts (if even that) that didn't necessarily need to be deleted. You have donated so much of your time to this thread; deleting over 100 posts of pure garbage and hatred. Thank you for that.

This is only a temporary benching setup. 6GB will put less stress on the Northbridge, which allows less heat to be produced and a lower VID on the chipset, giving more stability and a little bit of a better CPU overclock. Once I get this in the case and start editing videos I'll put in the 24GB.

In my post (that ira-k accidentally deleted I asked if it was possible for you to get a workstation card to run benches/real world test next to your "gaming" cards. That ATI card posted earlier in the thread looks impressive.

It would be great to see real tests with real tasks using a computer such as yours that should remove as many of the normal bottlenecks as possible. Is the huge markup on them cards worth it?

I told you I am a teacher right, so I know how administrators make bad decisions about computers (and almost everything else), but... I would still go to the teacher in charge and ask them how they plan on editing the new videos from the new cameras. Just play the innocent guy and "don't understand" their answers until they buy you one of the workstation cards. Keep at it, its worth it.

PS. I am back. Your good answers are good. You had me at "One should never use anger and harsh words no matter how right or wrong someone is."

OK, I've just finished a week’s training in Seattle WA for work and spent the last 2 hours at the airport going through this thread. There are some things I feel need to be addressed:

OP, this thread is about your build. Posts have been removed that are off topic to your thread as the main topic pertains to your hardware and the actual build itself. Mods have spent countless hours trying to keep the thread on that topic without deviating as it keeps doing, so can you please also keep on topic as much as possible.

To those that claim the Mods have done mass deletion of posts as a "quick" way to clear out posts, this isn’t the case. When a post is deleted it is one post at a time. And after the deletion has happened, you get taken to the first post in the thread. So you can imagine the time and energy that goes into cleaning just a few posts (including reading them to see if they are on topic to the OP).

This thread has been reported by fellow OCN members 60+ times, so those who keep making statements about OCN going downhill and pointing the finger, it is the community which has issues with many of the off-topic posts in this thread. Mods do their best to keep a thread neutral and on topic. Yet like any thread, it is a dynamic and constantly changing entity.

Many claim censorship, yet the Mods weed through 100 pages to delete those off topic posts to keep from just deleting the entire thread. Imagine the amount of work going into to this thread to keep from absolute censorship (just deleting the entire thread)!

And to those members making statements that the Mods are stupid and idiots;
Quote:
No but I had a post showing where he was miss-informed but I think the mod's must have deleted it when they went on their rampage. OCN needs new mod's....
Quote:
None of my posts were abusive or derogatory at all why did they get deleted?

Oh sorry forgot the OCN Mods are idiots.
all I am going to say is that the mods are a 100% all volunteer staff who sacrifice personal time (and in the case of this thread) to actively maintain as positive an environment as possible to share and learn. All Mods are first and foremost members!

Finally, to those members whose posts have been deleted, can I ask this: Where the posts about the main topic of the thread related to the build? If they were, I am sorry for any posts that accidentally got deleted or where misinterpreted (it is hard to take things in their intended context when one simply reads a person's words). But there have been many off-topic posts, or posts attacking the OP which have been deleted.

Respectfully,
ericeod

Yes we do work for free. I was a very active member in the forum and helped anyone asking for help at all costs (including a lot of personal time). I was then approached by the staff after almost 3 years of membership and asked if I would like to help out the forum even more by helping in moderation. I thought it was a great opportunity by being even more involved. Sadly my moderation duties take up so much time that I do not always get a chance to roam the forum at my liesure answering/asking questions in threads. But I still feel I am doing something for the betterment of all on OCN, so that makes up for the loss of free time to "Have Fun".

Hi Ericeod, I don't know if you saw it, I actually just made a post about 30 minutes ago describing how mods volunteer countless hours of time trying to improve OCN, not destroy it. Basically a summary of what you said

I do my best to keep this on topic as much as possible, It all starts out with, people asking on-topic questions, which lead to truthful but somewhat off-topic answers. In this thread, many were surprised by these off-topic answers, and they started to become the main topic of discussion. As you probably know, a few days ago there were about 100 posts calling me a troll and liar about many of these semi-on topic or off topic answers I gave (and some even denied the existence of this rig in the first place and said I was simply in the back of a microcenter store). I don't know if you were able to read that series of 100 posts of hatred before it was deleted, but if you did, I'm sure you would understand why I posted some proof pics about the rig and other controversial subjects (that used to be) in this thread. If I didn't do that, and if you guys (I mean you guys as in OCN mods) weren't here to help clean up this this thread; the spam, rumors, and hatred probably would have just gone on forever.

Now that this whole "OCN members trying to be detectives" phase is over, I can get back to the build and stay on the build.

I really wanted to say thanks again though for donating and volunteering your time for the benefit of others; not only in this thread, but in all of OCN. You have my respect.
