Also the more I think about it, I bet that going with dual xeons would probably be more beneficial for the ultra high-res editing that I'm trying to do, since these benches are probably geared more towards a standard 1080p editing workflow rather than the 6k by 3.5k video that I'm using (which is more than 10x the bandwidth of 1080p)

I'm submitting new benches tonight to PPBM , but from the conversations I had with the guy that runs the site so far my last bench was the fastest he has. I just need to disable SLI and set my mem timing correctly to re-bench.

ok, I'm sold.

Now if I could just find out if this memory is compatible with the SR-2... Is there any way other than to test it myself? It's kind of off-brand memory so I don't think anyone else with an SR-2 would have the same RAM kit that I do.

While your re-designing your build, I really feel the need to urge you in the direction of a quadro instead of the 460. Check out the conclusion. The higher res your video is, the more these concepts apply.

Incidently akrEAGLE I found the source of my issue with the PPBM benchmark.

When I restored my disk image of apps I pulled Premiere 5.0.0 NOT 5.02 hence the crappy results.

I just Sent Bill (PPBM operator) me new results and I thoroughly took the #1 position by A very very large margin. Overall 11 seconds faster then anything else they had listed.

This is honestly an amazing build. $15K is a lot of money to pour into a computer, but smoke 'em if you got 'em huh?

Great idea! I never even thought of changing the GTX 460 for a low end Quadro. Definitely going to do that, probably for something like the quadro 3800

It would probably help out more with After Effects than Premiere though since premiere is now supporting fermi for GPU acceleration (they just announced official fermi support a few days ago ).

You really don't want to know what happened the first time I turned on my computer...

I've considered TEC cooling before, in fact I was previously torn apart between the two for the CPU cooling so I made a thread here on OCN asking which would be better from a price to performance standpoint. Basically everyone agreed that the extra electrical costs of TEC cooling would make up for the initial higher price of the Phase cooler, and would give less performance than Phase.

WOW! If I had only seen your result 2 weeks ago...

Do you think that everyone else that used that benchmark is getting worse performance also due to using a previous version of Premiere CS5?

I never ended up putting it in it's case yet since I'm upgrading about half of the components.

Thanks, but that $15k is about to $22k

Just to let you guys know though I didn't actually spend that much on this build, I'm just an obsessive deal finder.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok so here's the list of parts that I will most likely switch out; feel free to critique -

- Sell the i7 980x and Rampage III Extreme
- Return the 3ware 9750-8i RAID card
- Buy MegaRAID 9211-8i or 9260-8i RAID card
- Buy an SR-2
- Get Dual ES X5650/X5680 xeons
- (possibly) Return/Sell current phase change
- (possibly) Buy dual evaperator phase change?
- (possibly) Buy water cooling parts for chilled water?
- Switch from 8 Vertex SSD's to 8 C300 SSD's
AND/OR
- Buy 24GB more RAM and get RAMdisk software to run OS on RAM

And I was thinking if I'm going to build a rig with this much power, might as well
- Buy or rent 2 Ln2 / Dice pots!!!

Doing extreme benches and an in-depth review on the Xeons in an insane computer build will probably also give Intel a great incentive to send me their CPU's in the future. (And it will make a great video to start my t3chnews site with )

Now I just need to wait until I have 35 reps so I can sell on the OCN marketplace...
