1. I obviously didn't actually spend $23k on this comp. No way I would be able to afford that... That's just what it's worth. Half of the hardware I got from Intel / EVGA at no cost (they're semi-sponsoring me) and the other half I paid for with the $5k I won from getting 1st place at the California State Engineering/Science fair.

2. Considering that Intel most likely won't even be releasing an overclockable Dual QPI Xeon CPU that surpasses the X5680's for at least another year and a half there's no way this rig is going to be "outdated" that soon. 4 years from now this thing will still be probably still be a beast lol.

And why is this a sad day? It's going to be a great rig that get's the required job done. I don't really need anything more than that. Also, it's going to be helping out a tremendous amount with folding@home. So really you should be saying "happy day is happy" (lol).
Oh god yes hook this thing up to Folding@home! I wanna see some stats for this beast!

The whole point of this new desktop is because it's better than the previous 980x build.

A Xeon X5680 is basically the same thing as an i7 980x, but is an overall better quality chip and has a dual QPI. This way 2 of them can be used in one motherboard.

Maybe you should put Read OP in the title, as it seems like there are a ton of questions being asked that have been answered many times, I dont understand how you are not frustrated by it.

Anyway, awesome build

But yeah, you could probably call it an "insert computer use here" rig since it would pretty much be able to do just about any task; from gaming, to programming, to video editing
unless your using RAID SSD's than this rig is useless..

and it wont play 7 instances of crysis at the same time on sepreate 24" monitors at maximum res on max setting. the gpu's are not really THAT great..

but other than that it can render quite a bit of things with speed, as would my core i7, and my 2 x GTX 280's play all games i throw at it, as would your GPU's. but not 7 games at once.

EDIT: i should upgrade to SSD's in raid, a raid card, another water cooling loop, and 24GB ram..
than my computer would reach it's potential lol.

also nice rig for a 16 year old, I'm 17 and i like my rig because it does everything i throw at it, including rendering, although i don't render video from a $50,000 camera.

and lol at the guy saying we just spend $60,000 on the worst/best iMacs and iBooks.. just because they are the most expensive pre-built readily available computers does not mean that they are the best.. lol.

you should ask him to give you some money for the build you had to do to render the video, and make sure he knows why you needed this beefy computer.
