obviously, but as i said before, it was simpler and cheaper to get the PD 940.

and i can't help it, but i trust the stability of Intel even if my games are a little slower. i know AMD is good stuff.

i'd personally recommend the opty 165 or 170 if you plan to overclock and whether you can get a good price
I LOVE 939

and i don't have the money to buy a 7900 gt. even so, i think the 7800gtx is pretty good stuff
i checked tomshardware.com cpu charts... it depends on the game. i think PD won quake 3 and Athlon X2 won in farcry..
of course i have a 30% overclock, you have a 25% overclock

He has seen my opty 144 1mb l2 cache running stable at speeds way over the 4400 x2s 2200mhz and basically spat it. The 144 is less than half the price and will very easily sit on 2200mhz all day. The money you will save can be spent on other things or just not spent at all. When the dual core cpu's come into play then it is time to upgrade but for now I will be surprised that anybody with a dual core cpu is getting much better performance than somebody with a cpu with 1mb l2 cache in the gaming world. For me the 144 opty is the best bang for the buck CPU out there, if you can deal with the 9x multi then go for it. There is my 2 cents worth anyway In OZ its 280$ V 750$
Regardless of wether the game uses dual core or not, there is a performance increase. Nowon is ever just running one application. All your backround programs can run on one core, and the other run on another core. When I do things like run 3dmark06, one core goes to 100% and the other to 80%.

Why would you cripple yourself. Just because dual core is not yet highly incorporated in games, doesn't mean you shouldn't plan for the future.

To tell you the truth, and without trying to get people real angry, the best choice is a Pentium D 950. At 3.4Ghz, and only $340 (just 2 weeks ago it was $700) you can easily overclock it to 4.2Ghz on air. At that speed it is matching an FX60 at around 2.8Ghz or so.

And I have a 68% overclock.... people on air are getting 50% overclocks easy.
