I found that transferring it to PDF before e-mailing it helps. It is also nice if you use Kinko's to print any of these documents up while on the go, since they only can print files from MS Office or PDF off a memory device. Its easy, just make a PDF copy in your file.

Some recent news for you open office lovers:

Oracle and OpenOffice have split. As Oracle owned the trademark to OpenOffice, OpenOffice is now called LibreOffice until a more official name can be decided. (Maybe ClarisDoesn'tWork?)

Is the main link in the OP up to date? And I wonder what will happen in the linux repos.

The OpenOffice name was actually transisitioned to Apache Software Foundation. They may continue with the OpenOffice name, so OpenOffice may not be truly dead. Who knows.
