Needing New Heatsink

Thread Starter
I am in the market for a new heat sink and alot of people have suggested the Big Typhoon. Everyone says its a badass mofo, but there are some people who have had their mobo short out due to over tightening. Also, I transport my computer home once a semster about and I dont want to have to take off the heat sink everytime I do that. So is there another heatsink that will perform well
,but is not as heavy as the BT. Yes, I have seen the mini BT, but alot of people that its not all its cracked up to be. So hit me with some suggestions.

The over tightening would have to be an extreme case. Nearly all of the TT gear is installed with the two bolts through the mobo. It works very well and is strong. If you installed the TT correctly and didn't over-tighten the bolts the TTBT could stay on there no worries. There is a hell of a lot of different types of coolers out there on the shelves. The TTBT seems ot be very popular as the xp90 is also. I myself on a rig run the TT silent tower and it seems to do a very good job indeed. Was a little cheaper than the TTBT and it is as it says Silent. Don't worry about the rumors you have heard about the short problem, that would have to be a very extreme occasion. If you want the TTBT then buy it for it is a very good HSF.

I'd second the Big Typhoon. I bring my computer home from college every once in a while also. Never had a problem yet. Just to be on the safe side I lay it on its side just to make sure it doesn't put any extra weight on the mobo when traveling.
But if you don't trust it then look for something else, there's lots of different ones out there. Look maybe for the golden orb.

Like people have been saying, the overtightening is a very rare ansd extreme occasion, i cant even emagine how much you would have to crank down on the screws! Anyways if you want the best cooler, the BT is by far the best, though if you want a few others to look into, the XP-90 and zalman CNPS9500 are just behind the BT in cooling... Though all high performance air coolers are quite big and heavy, so dont expect to find a small HSF that will perform anywhere near what the BT can do!
