Windows 7 - BOOTMGR missing

Thread Starter
Hi all,

Restarted my PC the other day just as normal and up pops this message "BOOTMGR Missing, Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to RESTART"...

Tried this which was suggested on the Microsoft Forums = http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...6-888f7a0a9720
but this didn't work either .

I tried running the "bootrec.exe" and then using one of the options that allowed you to search for any windows installations and then assign it a new "boot record". When it searched for windows installations it came back and said 0 found...

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm hoping I don't need to re-format

It's either a defective drive or cable, or you left a USB drive plugged in and it's set to try booting from that

1. Put your windows installation DVD in and restart your system. Set your computer to boot from DVD or CD in your BIOS.

2. Windows will ask you for language and keyboard layout information etc, after which you will be asked if you want to re-install windows or repair your installation.

3. Select Repair. Windows recovery tool will start and hopefully repair your installation.

Don't give up either. I had to do this 3 times in a row to get it to work back when I used Vista!

If you have another OS you can use something like bcdeditor or if you can put the hdd into another computer you could do the same. Otherwise I would say follow what the rest wrote and use the windows install/repair options.
