How do I over clock my laptop?

Thread Starter
Could someone please help me I have just got my self a Advent 7078 laptop spec: 1.6ghz pentium m , 725 processor and I am trying to get it to run faster I have been told that I can get it to 2.13ghz with a pin mod this website shows it. -

http://www.laptoplogic.com/resources...23a5df216c0709

But I have tried doing that mod to it and it made no difference apart from taking the clack speed down 1mhz.
Does any one have a guide to do a pin mod to oc my cpu?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thnx

I dont know much about clocking a laptop, but I NEVER suggest it. The cooling on a laptop just doesn't suffice for an effective, noticeable OC. Maybe I'm wrong, so keep your thread going but IMO i odnt think its worth it

yea dude dont mess with the lappys there touchy enough not to mention cooling did you think about cooling.....laptops are meant to be portable not super fast not to say they arent fast but there are no upgardes for them with the exception of alienwares swapable video card modules and RAM
but if you want to wreak it and it most likley will happen.....i mean im not tryin to be mean but laptops you dont just mess with.....

nah mate, u can mess with em all u like in terms of hardware, graphics interchangeable on a fair few dell n fujitsu models n all. hdd, ram and cpu are all piece of piss to upgrade!

clockin as am finding aint that easy for cpu/ram but clock ur gpu to ur hearts content provided its nvidia or ati! mines clocked to the limit pretty much and provided its on flat surface cools fine!

You could oc your laptop, but like stated above you're going to run into cooling problems not to mention the more juice the oc will suck out of the battery. I've known people to oc their laptops but they almost never unplugged them from the wall and it had to sit on the desk because it was really too warm to hold in your lap.

They overclock about the same as a desktop, but most don,t have the options as a desktop, and the ones you can overclock don't do good and usually have alot of failures, they are not designed for overclocking. so good luck.

The pin mod could've worked, and your laptop motherboard downclocked to 1.6ghz because that is all the board or bios will accept. You cannot overclock the laptop unless you can find clockgen/setfsb etc that will work with your motherboard's chipset. Dont get your hopes up, because laptops are not overclockers. Even if you do get it to overclock, you might run the risk of it heating way up. My laptop has the same CPU as yours, and it will hit around 75 C full load. I found a fan/temp monitor program (thanks to the_jester) and when the fan is on manual full blast it is about 60 C full load. Also, you wont find any overclocking options in your bios, sadly. If I had the options, mine would be oc'ed too lol.

so is it possible to change my bios so that I can oc it from there because currently it on the manafacturers one which won't let me change anything.
I tried using clockgen to oc it but I couldn't figure out which mobo to set it to and it just kept freezing and other things when I did try to speed it up.
Is there anythin I can do?

You would need a different heatsink at least.
Since last time i checked, lap tops and their stock cooling doesn't work out for overclocking. As they get really hot even without overclocking.

I can't really suggest anything that would be safe. Anyhow good luck.
