Ok Here we go.

Put about a Half to a whole BB on the heat sink and chip.

This is about a half BB

Get a baggie and rub it in on the big heatsink only.

Heres the AS5 rubbed on the heat sink.

Start wiping the as5 off.

Wipe it all off, leaving AS-5 in the tiny micro groves.

Press the big heatsink down on the chip and fasten

This is the end result After pressing the HS onto the chip

Th

The paste will spread out a little more over the next 24 hours after being attached.

Hope this helped

These processors use a "Flip Chip" process and have no IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader) so they need to have a light film on both the cpu core and the heatsink assembly.

The post above shows an IHS and on a video card processor there is NO IHS, only a flip chip core.

danno85ss,

I see by your signature you're using an ASUS P5LP-LE (HP OE only I believe) with a 9XX Pentium D. I've got two P5LP-LE's (a Lithium-UL8E and a Limestone-GL8E, both PCI-e capable) and I've recently purchased a new/sealed retail Pentium D 930 CPU.

I've downloaded the BIOS updates from HP's site for each board. I'm curious to know how you upgraded the BIOS on yours to handle this class of processor. According to their site, these only handle a Smithfield core out of the box but I'm assuming the cryptic description of the BIOS update means it is an upgrade to make them Presler-friendly. I want to know will it boot prior to BIOS update with the Presler in there so that I can perform a BIOS update or must I have a Smithfield-cored CPU in there first to make it POST?

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Apparently he doesn't accept private mesages. So who is an Administrator or Moderator that can pass my PM along?

Thanks for helping a newbie!

Never mind. I finished building the system yesterday and it boots just fine with Pentium D 930 seated in it.

Thanks anyhow!
