New! Quad Core CPUs!

Thread Starter
Have you guys heard about the new quad core CPUs coming out? What do you think will result because of these? They sound sweet.

I think the prices on dual core and single core processors will drop dramaticly. The single core is fading away, and in a few more years, who knows.

Rofl, Nicely said.

We're struggling to use 2 cores muchless four, or the 48 made by different companies. It's just dumb now, Well I feel dumb, I just upgraded

k8L cores will be quad or 8 core in q1 2007.

read it recently in CPU mag.....

EDIT: Having several cores serves well for SERVERS for all you naysayers out there....it's economically effective for one to buy a single 8 core chip and a compatible mobo than to buy 2 rack servers and 8 single cores.

The quad core AMD K8L is intented for the opterons, not for the desktop. Like the others have pointed out there are a only a few softs that use dual-core so the quads would be pointless on desktop, but on servers they should perform quite well. Some say they can evan have 256 bit memory interface (quad channel ddr)

I think I read that too. Intel is pushing for like 12 cores with 10mb L2.

Why? Ya sure, servers, but we are stuck with BS programs on 2 cores, why 12??

Leave it to Intel to take everything to the extreme to try to impress people to buy their product... (ie. gotta have to longest pipeline to have the fastestest processor)

Actually, Intel is cutting back the stages in the pipeline from 31 to 14 in Conroe.
