Bottlenecking

Thread Starter
Is it true that in general, the CPU is holding back the video card in gaming applications? I've gathered from here and there that even something like a 6800GT will be held back by an AMD 3000+ (or equivalent) proc. Am I wrong? Is my setup (with the overclock) still bottlenecking my video card?

You will still be bottlenecking that card but by only a little..it cant really be helped all that much.

The bottle neck via your cpu will only be small due to the quality of your cpu..More problems of bottlenecking occur with the 7800/7900 cards .Its something that i hope the major companies are sorting out. But most gpu,s today perform so well you will only notice the b/n in benchies not day to day gaming

I agree with you but the 06 version is desighned to be for dual core cpu,s and is quite away ahead of the graphical nature of gaming ..Im sure that the programmers will soon catch up .The point i am making that is with a good gpu you will not notice the bottlenecking caused by the cpu in everyday gaming .The only way to tell is by benchmarking
