well not quite, the way i understand it is that dell and alienware are still 2 seperate companies.....not just 2 identities of the same company....at the end of the day dell has got it's xps range that it will want to promote before alienware.
apparently alienware will continue to be run in the same way, by the same people, and with the same employees. Although dell own them they will not be changing anything.....I read somethin along those lines a from a press release form alienware and dell...I'll have a look around to see if i can find a link

DELL has been busy monopolizing the sector and it's a good thing if you own Dell stock.

The down side is that unless they take the companies they buy out and there staff and label, the bought companies become like the Borg assimilated into the hive with all that made them viable lost. They are doing a great job of getting rid of competition?

Do you think Alienware will be marketed as an example, (Alienware by DELL?) with all the Alienware attributes in tact? If not then we won't see there benefit in the long term.

We see this in every major sector in our country and one day IBM, HP, Dell will merge into clusters at the center of the Borgs hive...

IBM sells far more computers that Dell does... IBM has the server market as well. I don't see Dell ever taking IBM.

as far as I can tell....Delll will be dell, and alienware will be alienware....dell and alienware are 2 completely different companies, if dell tried to apply it's marketing and, most importantly, it's production techniques to alienware then it would go against alienware's core objectives, this is something dell do not intend to do.......apparently.
But at the end of the day dell are not computer lovers, they are money lovers so who knows what actually will happen.....

IBM is not bigger then Dell when it comes to computers. I dont know about servers (although I have seen many more Dell servers then IBM servers), but I do know that Dell is much bigger when it comes to home/office computers. I have NEVER seen an IBM desktop in a home setting and only a few times in offices. Dell on the other hand, is in almost EVERY home I have EVER done service in.

Dell and Alienware have very similar objectives:

DELL:

Appeal to computer ignorant low-end users
Make Money

ALIENWARE:

Appeal to computer ignorant high-end users
Make Money

IBM does not make the home PCs. My School District purchases over 50,000 IBM computer every year... IBMs are used by large businesses, schools, and government agencies.

As for servers, IBM makes the most powerfull servers in the world. We are not talking about the server in your local grocery store... we are talking powerful business servers. (NSA and CIA exclusively use IBM servers)

These are the server I am talking about:

I agree... it will be a long time if ever that IBM loses it's share of the server niche. I work at GE and all of our corporate and main servers are all huge IBM's almost identical to those in the pics. As for the home and office I think Dell has that one locked down. I know that GE has over 700,000 dell desktops and laptops currently in use just in the U.S.!!!! That's not including the 50 something foreign countries we have locations and companies in. So will Dell ever purchase IBM... never, they wouldn't have the know how or capacity to maintain IBM's business structure. The IT community would be in a world of hurt if that ever happened.
