you should have gotten the 256 version because it is a better overclocker. you wont be able to utilize 512 with gddr2 and 128-bit memory bus

Are you running the Hynix HY5PS561621A? It is rated for 800MHz and that is the default speed of this DDR2 Dram. DDR2 dram is hot and not very overclockable. Different companies use different dram. What are the markings on the dram?

Can you open your computer, take out the video card and write down the specs for the dram and post them here?

well, I just purchased the same card, 512mb as well, about 2 days ago....will be here in another 2 days.... from reviews I read, these things do tend to run a little hot on a full load, but is within reasonable parameters... I was thinking of purchasing an aftermarket fan as well....(been looking around on newegghttp://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Ca...sp?Category=11) but having not gotten mine yet, I'm not all to fimiliar with the size and stats of the fan. Have you OCed your card yet? Just curious what your running at for comparison

Mine used to run a little hot so I put some AS 5 on the gpu in place of the stock thermal paste. I dont go above 62 under full load now. I have also been able to OC my card to 630 on the core but I have only taken the ram to about 445. I may try to go higher some time soon.

The DDR2 video card memory that is usually used in the 256 or 512mb X1600 Pros is rated for 400mhz (stock) and can't go much further, because of its design.

And to whoever said the card can't use 512mb, any card can use 512mb even if it had a 32bit memory bus, it will just take longer to fill it, but if the capacity is needed then it'll be there.

Overall its not very effective with 512mb simply because to use it effectively you need high res textures and high resolutions, AA AF settings etc, which won't usually be possible on an X1600 Pro. And since it costs less, the 256mb version has better value.

yah but for the most part, there's only a 10 dollar difference between the sapphire 256mb and 512mb on newegg, so I went with the 512mb when i bought my card
