this is my new amd build and my fan is making me angry. so i want to make 6000rpm cpu fan quieter. its a vantec tornado. it has power through molex connectors but it also has a sensor cable that(is yellow) and it plugs into the cpu fan slot. so i have speedfan 4.28 or whatever its called and it says that fan 1 is my cpu fan speed and i want to make my speed slow down to like 2000 rpm or quiet rpms and then when i game or whatever i want it to crank up to 6000rpm. how do i do this? help and idiot

You could build a 7v to 12v switch.Or you could just 7 volt mod it all the time. Plus you could just tell speedfan to speed up at high temps that you set and slow down at those idle times or vise/versa

Just get a 4 to 3 pin adaptor and plug that into your mobo and fan. Don't worry about the RPM wire... it's not needed. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835999104

Well... It's a little tricky. You see speedfan can only adjust the voltage to any fan plugged into the cpu header... and since you fan does not get power from the cpu header you need an adaptor so that it does. Then you can start messing around in speedfan.

Hi Masterofthepuppets,

One other little item. The yellow wire is only for rpm indication, it draws no power. Also you'll need to be careful plugging the Tornado fan into the motherboard header. I think it draws more amps than the motherboard header can provide. That's why it plugs directly into the power supply's molex connector, and uses only the yellow wire to indicate rpm's.

I looked for the specs on your motherboard on Asus's web paged, but couldn't find anything. You'll need to check your manual.

I hope this helped, :-)
