Limited or no lan connectivity

Thread Starter
I am running a pc and a notebook connected directly with a crossover cable since I currently don't have a switch at my dad's. Both machines are running xp pro sp2. It was working fine before I installed the service packs on both machines. Windows firewall are both turned off. And when connecting my router to both machines there are no problems. Both machines have DHCP enabled and device manager shows no problems in both computers.

What steps do I take to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance

Hi Selmer2,

Have you tried allowing WinXP to repair the connections??

Start>Control panel>Network and Internet connections>Network Connections

This will open up a panel showing your internet connections. Click on the connection you have and right click.
A window will pop up showing - disable, status, repair, etc. Ask windows to repair the connection. It might take a couple of attempts for each computer.

I've used this to repair connections that have been broken due to power bumps, driver changes or when the connection "has limited or no connectivity" issues.

I hope this helped, :-)

Thanx for the response guys, I gotta run but when I get back I will try to manually assign them (tried repairing but to no avail). I think Sp2 might reject auto private addresses or something

EDIT: Thanks guys, manually assigned. It is over. the end.
