PS3 + PC Monitor....How To Get Sound??? - Page 2

post #11 of 28
Just for simplicity...
OP first needs to address that his monitor has no speakers. Then the Audio connection adapter from the PS3's multi connector.

personally...
I just use the AV multi-out options and have the audio come out the plain-old RCA red-white plugs. then chuck those into one of my amps and plug my headphones in or swap to one of my sets of speakers. although if you don't already have those things then it probably isn't the cheapest method.
God i have no clue about Audio, the ONLY speakers i have are the cheap Logitech ones that i got that are USB

EDIT: Found the FS thread. OK, it was $5. Here
Thanks, i will check out his thread

Don't get a soundbar, your monitor has a 3.5mm audio out on the back. Get a 3.5mm male to male cable (Like this), plug one end into your monitors audio out, and the other into the line-in port on your motherboard, and set windows 7 to listen to this device:

Now the sound will go like this:
PS3 -> HDMI -> Dell SP2309w -> 3.5mm cable -> line-in on mobo -> out to speakers.

This way you can use your single set of speakers to get audio from your ps3 and speakers at the same time with the ability to independently adjust the volume of each.

I do not recommend this. Not only does your computer have to be running at all times for you to achieve sound but you are not able to use any other recording device at the same time and are limited to the sound quality that your motherboard / sound card can produce (may be a good or bad thing?)

*edit - actually didn't think about the "listen to this device option" I guess that's a work around to actually enabling that device, how many streams of audio can you have simultaneously with that? I'd still think you'd be limited to one recording device at a time though regardless of an OS option as the hardware can only produce one at a time?*

Sound bar is a great portable option man.. I'd stick with it, simple and easy, and you get to keep HDMI

Or simply connect to your Line-In on the soundcard.
Or if the speakers have 3.5mm in.
