rma'ing ram, any other good choices?

i bought some ocz plats about a month ago, and since then the price for them has plummeted to $190 (i paid $225), and also they are now offering a $50 rebate. so, if i sent them back and just repurchased them i would end up saving $85 which is a lot of money for a poor college kid like me

im fairly happy w/ their performance. i can run them @ 230 w/ 2.5-3-2-5 timings, but i was wondering about the gskills also. so, the question is...should i just repurchase the ocz's, or should i find me some new ram since ive got $225 to play w/?

anybody got any input?

i think i can technically rma them bc they wont run at 2-3-2-5 @200 MHz which are the stated timings. i hafta drop the MHz down to 195. plus, newegg is pretty lenient about rma's

Well I don't know how well the OCZ works, but my G.Skills can easily hit 280MHz. They'll also run 2.5-3-3-7 at 250MHz, which are a little bit tighter timings that default. I bought them for $158, but i think they're back up to $190 now. The choice is completely up to you, but the G.Skill I have is some kickass RAM.

You can always get away with some excuse to RMA something to the vendor,

I have to make 2 claims myself but I'm going to wait because I have no backup components and the 7900GT's are apparently on wait lists for RMA's.

Hey Bob, would you be interested in trading the OCZ's for my G.Skills and see if you have any luck with them, I leaning on selling mine since my board isnt liking them too much and going back to the OCZ's (both can be RMA'd with second owners), plsu I've purchased that set in the past and can get away with an RMA.

If you dont have luck with them you can RMA the G.skills and get a new set.

Both sets are the same price so it'd be pretty much an even trade

FatKid, the echeck cleared, going to send it out tomorrow

I would definately go with the G.Skills if I were you. Just for the simple fact that they run up to 280MHz. That's a good 50MHz better than what you're getting now, which is a huge amount of memory bandwidth. I tested my kit with ramspeed, and I average about 3000 MB/s, which is about double my old Corsair value RAM that ran at 230MHz.

i think what im gonna do is repurchase the ocz's and save the money and maybe this new set will run at the stated timings.

i was thinking about some ddr500s, but i dont know if i wanna push the cpu up that hi w/o a big typhoon to cool it down. and the truth is im just too lazy to put one of those things in. from what i hear its a pretty big ordeal. anybody got one that could either confirm or deny this?
