cant remove old HSF!

was about to install my volcano but god damn this thing is on.. i think the latch is on the side of the power supply so theres no space to work with , am i pulling the latch up or down? you guys have any pointers?

Yes, its always been much easier forme to work with the heatsinks with the motherboard OUT of the case, just removeit all from the case and do your work, or atleast remover the PSU to give your hands a little more room to work.

ya i did, just i put it back in that shot. but am i supposed to push down on the latch? or pull on it. i dont want to break the mobo

I think you pull down on it. Thats not as bad as my heatsink. I tried removing it, and i cant find anything. THeres 2 levers, but they dont do anything-un movable, lol.

You need to push the clip down and lift outwards to release the clip removing the PSU will help.

Use a small flat blade screw driver push down and out.

The other person with the 478 socket, you need to release both levers then push in on both hooks that hold it to the bracket, just take your time with it.
