Hmph. I'm pushing 37 and will buy a Revolution simply to keep buying Mario and Zelda games. Nothing kiddie about either franchise, IMHO. They're just dang good games, period.

(I mean, if you want to argue that Nintendo is the kiddie console, at least use Pokemon as your argument! )

IMO Playstation is aimed at the broadest audience with Xbox being geared towards the sports game and violent game crowd as well as those who want the best graphics (console wise) while Nintendo's products have been aimed at kids hence their lower price and their onslaught of sequels that only a child would keep on buying,
Unfortunately, endless sequels are an industry wide phenomena, not a Nintendo one.

If I were to pick the one console that has their finger on the pulse of the "broad audience" you mention, I would actually have to pick two. First, Microsoft probably has got a significant jump on Media Center type functions in the living room with the X360. A ton of non-gamers can still get into what the X360 will do for them. And the second one is Nintendo, they have the right idea for gamers. The Revolution's ability to download the classic games appeal to we old-schoolers gamers, plus that nifty new controller has the potential to make intersting games for the non-gamer crowd.

The PS3 is, IMHO, the biggest "more of the same" in the bunch. It's just a bigger, more powerful console. That's fine and dandy, but with the other features offered by its competitors, I really think Sony is going to lose some ground in this round. Make no mistake, there is enough Playstation fanboyism out there to keep the PS3 a viable system; but if Sony is not careful, they could really lose some market shar eover the next five years.

My point: Focusing on hardcore gamers is not going to win this race.

ps - for any of you who think that less clockspeed means more fun, i have an old apple whose cpu is probably measured in KHZ. anybody want to buy? it'll be tons of fun by your arguments!
You're maing a spurious argument based oh his opinion of what consoles were for. He did not say that slower hardware meant it was more fun. He was making an argument that, i beleive to most thinking individuals, means that we should not base our judgements on this system based on the graphics, but rather, on how fun it is. And, yes, nintendo is focusing on gameplay. They have radically new gameplay changes due to their new controller. That is definitely focused on gameplay. And who do you think makes the mario series of games? The good 'ole boys at nintendo.

I am defeinitely not saying that the Revolution will leave all behind, but i am saying that judgements should be made on playability and the degree of enjoyability....not in the graphics neighborhood.

Starcraft has horrible graphics compared to most games today, but i would play that over an unplayable mess like hammer and sickle any day due to the fact that it is fun.

Too bad realistically speaking Nintendo still owns MS and Sony . They have actually made the most money. they may not have sold the most, but they made that most money and that is what matters.

And DualCoreAMD.. What about architecture? How is it that AMD somehow beats Intel (Athlon64 vs Pentium 4) with low clock speeds? Its called architecture.

And back to Remonster.. How is The playstation marketed to the broadest audience? Its marketed to teens and younger adults, Nintenod wants to market to everyone they can.. So if broad to you is narrow then yes, Sony does go for the broadest range of people lol..

And still. What is up with the Nintendo = kiddy thing? I mean c'mon is there anything you have to back that up? I severly doubt it. Nintendo is the trend setter in the gaming world, I think that can be agreed on.

Nintendo in my opinion has had the best consoles. I still have the orginal nintendo and everyone since then, I even have the virtual boy lol. Nintendo is all about innovation and bringing new ways to play games, I am looking forward to the revolution and since it is not going to have the greatest components I could possible see the starting price at $250, $200 or maybe even less. It is not all about graphics, gameplay to me is what matters.

I still dont see what is sooooooo kiddy about nintendo games...mega man was one of the best sellers besides zelda metroid and mario...NINTENDO GAMES ARE MADE FOR FUN, NOT GRAPHICAL PERFORMANCE!!!!! What is so hard to understand about that? I mean i couldve SWORN PC's were for performance and looks...why does a console have to be the same?

Why cant people just view a console as something thats purely for FUN?! thats what its all about, thats what mario party is for...FUN its just like monopoly cept with mini games...and thats kiddy? I suppose monopoly is kiddy nowadays too...but its still fun and thats what matters...

The basic presumption that Nintendo is a kiddy system stems from another other myth. For reasons I shall explain people believe that games with "E" ratings means games are for kids. Obviously anyone with some common sense will realize that this is bogus. There are plenty of games with "E" ratings that are very challenging and fun, they just don't have violence and such. People are convinced however that because the game has content that society deems suitable for kids that it is meant for kids. Nintendo has many successful games that are rated "E" and therefore the Nintendo is assumed to make kiddie games. Note that this list of games included certain titles like Metroid or Zelda (obviously "kids" games ).

Just to prove the point a bit more (for those still unconvinced), there was once a time, believe it or not, when games didn't have ratings at all (ah the days of the old) which means anyone could buy any game. In other words, essentially all games had an "E" rating. So by the reasoning that "E" games make a game "kiddie", then I guess games like the orginial Doom would be kiddie (and please don't try to argue that by today's standards they would be M rated, if they were considered very violent than they would have had ratings back then, but they didn't... so you can't argue today's standards against something old. It's too subjective.)

People just need some excuse to put down Nintendo. They are successful, and make great games. People who are completely fixated on one of the other consoles just need some excuse to validate their choice of console and playing up the "kiddie" factor is one way, though despite being complete nonsense.

The Nintendo Gamecube specs were not that great (higher than the PS2 however) and the sales were ok, assuming the PS2 had many more games avaible. The Nintendo DS is a weaker system that the PSP, however, in Japan alone the NDS sales triples the PSP sales.

Nintendo was never about power or performance. It was all about Evolution and Revolution

i am surprised by what has been said by somne people on this forum about the next gen games consoles. after all i mean this is an overclockers forum. if its amazing graphics we want we should just go straight to our pcs for that. gameplay is all that matters on a games console and i believe nintendo is going to be the winner out of the ps3 360 and revolution.
