Disappointing Revolution Specs? - Page 7

Any foolish ramblings about kiddie systems and innovation and other abstracts aside, Nintendo is going to make a killing off these things. Of the last generation of consoles I purchased only one, the Nintendo Gamecube, I bought it because it was affordable, had a number of quality titles available for it and honestly because I thought it was the underdog. In the past I'd bought video game consoles because they were faster and more flashy and blah.... I've seen countless good consoles go under because they weren't supported by the consumers as they should have. I wasn't going to let Nintendo go quietly in its sleep as I had Sega. This time around though I'm not buying a Nintendo hoping to save a childhood friend from the poorhouse, no I'm buying a Nintendo because those guys are FRIGGIN' GENIUSES! I can't imagine how many old Nintendo and Sega games I'm going to download on that little beauty. I'll gladly plop down a few dollars here and there for the original, quick and satisfying video game fixes, rather than drop $70 on another rehash from anyone else. I'm banking many others will too. Aside from the buckets of dough Nintendo will be haulin' back to Japan for the games, they'll actually be turning a profit on the hardware, by using a design not too dissimilar from the GameCube. A final financial note for your consideration; suppose I spend $1000 dollars next year on video games and I go the Nintendo route. I buy a $200 dollar system... Nintendo banks; I buy 16! (that's a lot of games) $50 games... Nintendo banks. My buddy however buys a PS3 $500-600 ( oh noes Sony! loses $200); my buddy buys 6-7 $70 games.... Sony banks, (we hope they would at some point!) It doesn't take a community college business major to see that Nintendo doesn't have to sell anywhere near the volume of consoles or games as Sony and Microsoft to see much greater profit margins.

Last thing I've got to establish my flame guard, I'm not a fanboy I absolutely love my modded PSOne AND of course my GameCube. The revolution just makes WWAAYY too much sense, and dammit I'm gettin' one.

It's been two days. Doubtful that he will care.
Anyways, from what I have been hearing, the "Wii" (silly japanese and their weird humor) specs. will be anything but dissapointing. Sure they may not be as high as the xbox360 and the elusive PS3, but they will get the job done. The Wii is like the little engine that could.

The Wii will have 512mb internal memory with an SD bay to allow more storage.

CPU: PowerPC CPU (Codename: "Broadway") Made with a 90nm SOI CMOS process, jointly developed and manufacted by IBM.

GPU: Not much info, just that it's made by ATI.

Other: Four ports for NGC controllers, two slots of NGC memory cards. An AV multi-output port for component, composite or S-Video.

Developers are going to love developing on it. The architecture is said to be soo simple compared to the 360's and PS3's. Remember when the cell processor was said to be a night mare to program on.

Looks like nintendo have learned from another companies mistakes.

A RISC processor? Could be interesting, R520 series GPU, even more intriguing, because technically that series of GPU is equivalent to G70 (130nm) rougly in terms of performance. However, I think it'll be drastically different, with a console you don't have to meet a "spec" like PCI-e, it gives the chipmaker a little more freedom, and as seen with the Xenos GPU, it makes a big difference when compared to desktop parts. Except the RSX by nVidia, yea that was a big let down for me, all they did was port they're 7800GTX 512 to PS3 and Cell specs.... lame. I don't care how powerful it is, if the games are rehashes of everything thats already been done its crap.

I dont' get what the point of the PS3 is, as members of OC.net forums don't we look for image quality AFTER we get playability? Hmmm, seems like Nintendo did it properly....... and another little bit of comedy from the web :
Ctrl+Alt+Del: Sony Pii

Another point about graphics, I've seen some amazing **** done on the PS2, and that console's GPU was no where near as powerful as the high-end GPU back then. If the Wii has something relative to the R520, developers should have absolutely no problem making beautiful graphics comparable to stuff we see on the PS3 and XBox360, another note: resolution doesn't matter when the majority of us have normal aspect, CRT-based television sets, give the HD thing a break, its a moot point.

And no, 3 or 4 titles like "Resident Evil" and "Conker's bad fur day" dont make it suddenly an X rated console. The simple fact is that it is AIMED at children. Even the nes was aimed at children, because back then the market was solely aimed at children, and they didnt see the market expanding to the multigender, race and age market as it is now.

And dont say i dont like then NES. I would die for that console And the 64 was good too, but their latest offerings have been weak.
Who cares? And if you want an argurment of when Sony and MS have failed - It's in the character department. Nintendo has created the most recognizable and popular characters ever. Everyone knows who Zelda and Mario are. What has Sony created? Lara Croft...please. Xbox...?? No one. Instead of bickering like mindless idiots about the consoles, why don't you wait until they're actually out, then argue about the games themselves? Lol, crying about processor speed in a console...who the hell cares?

Actually, Sony has little (nothing) to do with Lara Croft. She should be associated with Eidos if you care about game developers, and IMHO the PC if you care about the gaming platform. Tomb Raider was one of the games that made people want dedicated 3D cards, the Playstation version looked like garbage compared to a Voodoo-enabled PC. Quake was the "big dog" for 3D cards, but Tomb Raider was actually bundled with some early Voodoo cards. (That's how I got my copy.)

Sony's characters (none of which were actually created by Sony, of course) are probably Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, and I suppose Solid Snake. Everyone seems to consider Metal Gear a Playstation series, even though it started on the NES and is ported to other platforms. On the XBox, you have Master Chief and...well, that might be all.

yeah, I heared that Nintendo wanted to purposefully makle the Wii's specs. lower than the PS3 or the X-360, because of price, I think that the best site for news on the Wii is here
