Question about PC4000 DDR500 ram

Thread Starter
heres the story

I know if I put the PC4000 DDR500 ram into my ASUS A8N Premium Mobo the mobo will automaticly LOWER my ram to PC3200 DDR 400...

BUT, I heard that if I have an ASUS A8N32 Mobo and I use the PC4000 DDR 500 ram. the Mobo will Automaticly set a divider for me and my ram will run 250MHZ as soon as I plug it in...

is this true? can someone please explain this a little better for me?

the mb will only show ddr400, but cpu-z will show your real mem speeds. ignore what the bios says. the divider only runs in relation to your cpu/ram

to test this theory out, set your multi to 11x and fsb to 250 and open up cpuz and look at the memory tab. it will tell you your true frequency.

All mother boards run at DDR400 standards if there capable, you will have to set it in the bios if you want to get the most out of them.

well that RAM uses Samsung UCCC IC's which is the same as g.skill HZ which is what I have. The new UCCC doesn't OC as well as the older stuff so people have actually had better luck w/ the regular OCZ gold PC4000.

the RAM will OC well, and as far as how hard it will be to get to 250Mhz... that depends on the rest of your components, but at 250Mhz your RAM will not be OC'd at all. Most UCCC will get to about 270 without any problems and some of the older stuff will do 280 easily

Not true. At least not for me. I had to set it to 250. 250x10, 4x HTT, 1:1 divider. RAM at 2.6v and vCore at 1.4.

Have no clue how that RAM is as I have the regular Gold series.

Look at my previous post on my OC to 250. You should have little trouble but you never know. Mine was easy to get there. I will be trying for higher soon, hopefuly around 275 or 280 would be nice but hell even 270 would be great.

oh, so what is the speed of the ram? the mhz right?

I hear people that have the 3200 DDR400 OC'ing like 230mhz but they have lower timings.

whats more important and faster?

the MHZ or the timings?

because before I bought the ram some people were saying get the LOW LATENCY PC3200 ram. but you can't get the MHZ higher than a PC4000 ram.

so PC4000 ram would be MUCH better than PC3200 regardless of the higher timings?

I was thinking about getting this ram

OCZ EL Gold GX XTC PC4000 2GB 2X1GB DDR500 CL3-4-3-8 184PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

but for 60$ more I can get this:

OCZ EL Platinum XTC PC4000 2GB 2X1GB DDR500 CL3-3-3-8 184PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

is it worth the extra 60$? why is it 60$ for a slight lower timing?

MHz. Timings are nice in benchmarks but play a small part in the real world as I understand it. You can not OC PC3200 2GB kits as high as you can PC4000 2GB kits. I pushed mine just now to 2.97GHz. 11*270 w/ 1:1 RAM divider. My RAM is at 270MHz with 3-4-4-8 1T(factory spec@250MHz) @ 2.6v and my CPU core is 1.45v. Did a 32M SuperPi run in almost top 10 time, getting ready to do a Prime run in few minutes. So I think it is a very stable OC. Love this RAM.
