I'm contemplating lapping the IHS as well, what kind of temp drops have people got from lapping both?

bump: When polishing can you just use a tissue/cloth and scrub it? Or is there another method that helps maintain a flat surface

No it must be done on a super flat surface like glass.

I'm not in the habit of triple posting but what the heck

Here's the sorry state my thermalright xp-120 came in

And here it is after 1-2 hours of lapping

If yoda has favour with your heatsink his face will appear in it.

My temps before this were 42-43 idle 65 load.

Idle is now 40-41(with spikes down to 36c occasionally, it never did that before). Load is 54.5c (with random spikes up to 58).

The AS5 hasn't cured yet so should go down even further . If you're wondering why the difference is so big and my original load temp was so high its probably because I didn't apply the AS5 as best as possible on my previous application.

This time round I'd used the recommended method of applying according to AS themselves (BB sized amount in the center and let the heatsink spread it out).

yeo, can overclock to 4.0ghz now up from 3.75ghz with the new temp headroom and still not breaking past 60c. Ye olde AS5 has yet to be cured as well, I'm just wondering now if theres really anymore point to going further.
