what? if its called ati or amd radeon, it really doesnt matter because even today the so called ATI radeons are really just AMD radeons because they are made by AMD

Seems like it doesn't really matter if they do or not, all they are doing is keeping what they have now just with a different logo.

Seems kind of obvious, fusion, you know, no gfx card needed... You know. Why the hell put 2 brand names on something the size of a CPU with a GPU in it. Anyhow, if true, sad to see ATI go for good.
Looks like AMD is trying to make its presence known with their solutions of CPUs, GPUs, and integrated GPUs on CPUs. Intel already has a strong presence and dominant CPU market around the world, so AMD is trying to do the same as Intel. Besides, most of the CPUs used around the world are Intel's.

Your average user doesn't care much about discrete graphics because the market share for them is much smaller compared to integrated graphics. Hence, the falling of market shares from nVIDIA plus the losing lawsuit against Rambus. Not a good time to be in the discrete graphics market this year.

Advanced Technologies Incorporated?
It shouldn't hurt the price of cards, unless they dont sell well due to the name change.

When people shop for things they look for brand because the brand equates to a level of quality and commitment. The general populace that I deal with at my job feel that AMD is inferior to intel because their friend said so. So saying that this computer comes with an AMD video card people are going to be like what? That's because AMD is known for processors and ATI is known for video cards regardless if they are the same company or not.

I personally don't care that they do a rename because I already know they are the same company and I will end up knowing whether they change the name or not.

It's the general population that we have to worry about. I still deal with people who don't know that HP and Compaq are the same company even though that merger took years ago.

So for the enthusiat it does not matter. We don't make up majority of their sales. We do make up more dollar per sale yes, but they make more money through the OEM market which is where brand recognition goes a long way.

For example mom and pop are ordering a custom dell off dell's website. Someone tells them that Intel is better than AMD. But everything about this one particular computer is perfect with the intel processor and all but they come across something that says integrated AMD video card.

The fact that they are told that intel is better than AMD they are gonna look for something other than AMD possibly an integrated intel cause they don't know that ATI and AMD are the same company nor do they care that they are. They are gonna look for something that doesn't say AMD. That where it will be helpful for them to stay with the ATI name.

Remember brand recognition goes a long way. Just cause there is something cheaper and faster doesn't mean you are willing to get it. If a new company started pumping out processors that rivaled intel but at a cheaper price are you willing to jump ship the first chance you get or are you gonna be wary and wait for everyone else to do it and see what they say?
Definitely a good point. However based on my own very limited and most likely biased research, the Radeon name is better known than the ATI one. In fact it almost seems like people think ATI, Radeon, and Nvidia/GeForce (most people seem to associate the latter, while many think the former are different) are the three separate companies that make graphics cards.
