best duals?

Thread Starter
I was hoping to get dual video cards... just... what to get without bottlenecking my processor and having it over heat?

First off, I already have a AGP XFX6800GT. Should I get another of the same card, or invest in something more powerfull? I want to be able to run Oblivion with very high settings/resolution, stutter free. As you can guess, one 6800 just dosnt cut it, coming to a grinding slow 6-12 fps when more than 2 NPC's are engaged in combat, 40 FPS outside exploring, and 70 indoors.

I have 1gb ram, AMD 64 3200+ 754 socket (but you see that in my spec profile)

I will also need to get a new mobo to support duals... i would proferable like to get 4x/8xAGP, as that is what my current 6800 is... is there much performance diffrence between a PCI-E and 8x AGP?

Thanks-- Radetsu

Theres no point in running 6800's in sli. Its better to jsut sell that one and invest in one 7900gtX. That will give you the best performance possible.

Yes, when you get up past the 6800GT level, there is a significant difference between PCIE and AGP. (Or at the 6800GT level with SLI.)

You need to move to PCIe. And yes, two 6800GT will beat a single 7800.. Not sure about latest.

But either way...

For christ sake.. How much power do you *really* need? A competition gaming rigto win money? No?

Gah.

$ for $.. two 6800GT will be dandy.

Unless you are beta testing the next version of Oblivion, I can't see the risk.

The other option is to go down a bit and get one 7800 now.. another later.
But it is an incremental difference, not exponential

Depends on how fast you would add second card. In 12 months, the dual 7800 will be 4-6th place.. Then again, you aren't going to spend 2 grand getting the latest and best.

But dual 6800GT is relatively cheap. And will last for a while. And let you watch the SLI vs. Crossfire debate from the sidelines.

I would suggest getting a 7900gt and getting the other (7900gt) later, if not buy both now. It all depends on your budget...

I was thinking of geting one of these now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150142
and another later, that way im prepaired for the future... because tech is going so fast, its best not to be left in the dust when the 6800 is outdated.

Get 1 7900gtx if u can find one lol... every store out the is sold out of every brand. But if u can find one it dominates all other cards even when u got two of them. Plus once u get more money and find anotherone for sell you can get a secondd and be set for at least 3 years. =)
