That's what I used to do, but I would probably have to help him a ton with that, and I can't exactly install the o/s for him, but this guides pretty good: http://www.overclock.net/t/1048365/ubuntu-setting-up-big-bigadv-p6903-for-dedicated-2600k Skip langouste and VM sections. Jump to the Ubuntu install and make sure you use Ext3 like he says along with only an 8 core hack script. (change the cpu # in the script to 8)
You should use 2 hard drives and your bios as a boot manage though. Grubb has issues when loading Win 7 upon occassion, so 2 hard drives prevent that.
