My 1100mhz GTX560Ti died almost exactly a year ago, and was running 268 drivers, I haven't tried going over 1000 with my GTX580 until the past week.

I'm only running my 580 at 925mhz, mainly because I'm not using it in TC. But I am running the Core-17 units on it and averaging around 46-48K PPD. I'm also on air right now, but have a bracket for a H-60 that I can mount if the need arises for a higher clock. Seems my 560 can't turn the new units fast enough for QRB.

I know turbo can produce more boost and power, but I just can't stand the whine or lag, lol. I love the sound and instant power of a supercharger. I'm ready for good weather so I can do some WOT runs with the windows down, just to hear my blower scream biggrin.gif

i like 4 pot turbo, i live in the uk we have corners wink.gif and fuel is £1.48 per litre(vpower) so having a V8 isnt a great idea,

ive owneded a fair few 6 pot bmws and driven alot of v8 cars around here, m3/m5/merc/ls3/windsor v8 in a for pop there fast in a straight line but honestly i dont think any of them are as fast as a well setup fwd 2l 4pot turbo.

I had nothing to do today, so I made a cannon for shooting ping pong balls.
The first video is with both ends of the pipe sealed with packing tape, and a vacuum pump evacuating the air from inside the pipe.
Cutting the tape on the end with the ping pong ball causes it to shoot out the other end.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8vh8jogK5c

The 2nd shot is with a pressure chamber added. I pressurized it with nitrogen until the tape broke.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95UHJm2vuFI

Ping Pong ball vs. Ping Pong paddle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ofxxf4smITg

With a little more tweaking, like putting a nozzle between the pressure and vacuum chambers, I will be able to get the ball to exit the tube at super sonic speeds, and make it punch right through a ping pong paddle. biggrin.gif

Oxygen and acetylene make a great propellant. You can put a ping pong ball completely through a brick wall with it. tongue.gif
post #3738 of 6124
I've worked in Ford dealers for years. In the first one I worked in we used to fill trash bags with the right mix of oxy-acetylene and light them. I don't know about the propellent aspect, but I can tell you it was a LOUD pop, lol.

I built a golf ball cannon with a piece of 3" pipe and another piece the size of a golf ball. It blew a hole through three walls of an abandoned building next door to us and we never found anything of the golf ball. That went so well I started building bombs with plastic bags. Then 4th of July two years ago I wanted to show everybody some REAL fireworks. I started to fill a drum liner with gas and had it almost full when static electricity set it off. Blew my glasses and hat off, the pockets off of my Western shirt, and embedded black plastic in both hands. The explosion was heard by a friend that lives three miles away and he jumped in his truck to see if he could find what he knew had to be a catastrophe. He didn't find anything. I was deaf for several hours and had to dig the plastic out of my hands but was otherwisw un-hurt. I think being at the epicenter was what kept me from being mortally injured. I then spent a full day fixing the leaks in the metal roof that weren't there previously. Needless to say my oxy-acetylene bomb days are over! tongue.gif

I'm intimately familiar with the power of acetylene. I use it for brazing copper tubing quite frequently at work.
FYI, a balloon filled with acetylene + a bonfire is an inadvisable combo....whistle.gif

A MAP/P gas torch and some 1/2" ID clear tubing, like we use for water cooling, is good for some fun visual effects.
I'll have to video it one of these nights. biggrin.gif

At any rate, with some refinements I should be able to do some serious damage to some fairly substantial targets, with just a ping pong ball shot out of my pressure assisted vacuum cannon. wink.gif

One thing I may try at some point is to make a more reinforced pressure chamber, set up for igniting propane or MAP/P gas, like a potato gun.
The key to really high exit velocity of the ping pong ball is evacuating the air from the firing tube though.

Being within city limits, I'll be sticking to ping pong balls though. Their mass and aerodynamic drag will limit their range, and make them not dangerous at more than a few yards.
A golf ball could so some real damage down range, not to mention that my schedule 40 PVC firing tube and pressure chamber would be unsafe to fire them out of.
