Asus 5770 CuCore - overheating/fix

Thread Starter
I have recently purchased a second 5770 and have had problems with overheating from the beginning.

Under furmark the card quickly ramped up to 105°C and would down clock to 650, when this happened in crossfire the graphics driver would crash.

I took the card back to the store and received a replacement but had the same issue.

I had a little play with the card and found removing the plastic shroud and changing to as5 worked best. The card now sits around 73°C under load in furmark. Ambient is 20°C.

Hmmm, maybe add the card to your watercooling loop?
Try swapping the card arrangements, let the Asus CuCore card be at the bottom and the current card at the top.

See if the temperatures change a little.

Thank you jacobthellamer!

I also have the Asus EAH5770.

Ive been worried about the heat my card (running 90-100°C during games)
and noisy as hell as the fan near max speed.

I removed the plastic shroud like you did, and voila! Heat never goes over 80°C even during 100% load and fan never over 60%. I barely can hear it now

Again thank you so much!

Halli.

I have the XFX 5770 egg cooler and I configured it in a way that a fan blows fresh into it from the bottom while 2 other fans blow at it sideways.

Max temp in Furmark is 54C for Core and 62C for Memory.

I have the same card and want to remove the shroud to clean the heatsink and fan that''s really clogged with dust.

Can you explain how you removed it? I tried pulling it but it didn't come off. Do I need to pry it off? If so where do I pry?

Bump.

Any input?

you need to take the whole heatsink off. you'll see some black screws under it
