I've been looking for a certain Xfx 7900 GTX Xtreme or something, XXX. Had a memory clock of 1650, and a core clock of 690 (estimate) I believe. It was going for about $360. I have the ability to spend $400, but I'd like to go lower if I can. And I was just looking at...

And that cards clocks aren't much worse than the 7900. So what I'm asking is. Are there any major drawbacks to getting that 7600? it's 160 dollars cheaper, which is a pretty nice chunk of cash to keep. Thanks for your help.

That is not a bad card if You have the opportunity to shell out a max of $400, then get a 7900GT which may run in the $300 range.

For an extra $100, you're going to get a card that will last you a lot longer than the 7600GT, then again if you're not an avid gamer/bechmarker than the 7600GT will do perfectly.

Well, as of right now, I play World of Warcraft, CS:S, F.E.A.R, Black and White 2, and a few other games. So I'm sure the 7600 would more than make the cut, but I am the kind of person who goes out and buys the newest and best looking computer games out. Getting the 7600, and then replacing it in a year is exactly what I don't want to do. So you'd reccomend shelling out the extra 100$ for a 7900?

If you are looking into getting a xfx 7900gtx extreme it doesnt matter which one u buy, they all overclock to the same max. You just end up spending up to 100 dollars more for a factory overclock.

So I should just look for the cheaper Xfx 7900GTX Extreme, and overclock it myself? I've overclocked all my other cards, and if these ones can overclock pretty well, then I'd be sure to do it. But my case's cooling is pretty poor, so I'd need to find one with a pretty good base cooling on the Card itself.

If you want to play the best games and have high FPS go with the 7900gtx its way better than the 7600. You would need 2 7600GT's to equal FPS as 1 7900GTX in FEAR.

F.E.A.R is best play on an ATI X1900 card.

So yes I'll recommend to get the 7900 GT for $100 more. The GTX is just way to much $$$ IMO. $200 extra for 256mb of GDDR3? I don't think it's worth it.

Just overclock the GT and you'll be closer in performance while having $200 in your pocket which may come in handy for a better upgrade in the future. I don't think you will see the difference while gaming if either using a GT or GTX, so save the extra $$$.....

Want the best at whatever cost? Then go for the GTX.
