I'm confused, How is an affinity changer going to help him if he has a dual core? Does it do something special that i am missing?

It is my understanding that AC will optimize multicore CPU's. While it does more for a quad core CPU, it will help improve the time/% efficiency of a dual core CPU also.

I could be wrong but you should see about a 2 min/% decrease in your times. Make sure your ram is running at Cas 4 (even if you have to lower the speed) for the best performance.

I wont see any performance increase running it on native Arch64 lol.

So it works a bit like the Amd dual core optimizer patch for k8? For me personally (by doubling the memory speed reported in memtest.org) running my ram faster with looser timings was a little faster as is this case more often than not, Slower with tighter timings would have been maybe a tiny bit faster if i had more timing options to choose from sadly i dont

Are you running 2 instances w/ Arch? What are your times?

What did you get 254 points for? Not for SMP...

Did you get the 5.91 Beta from Stanford?

Yep running two instances using taskset ( i guess the Unix equiv of Affinity changer). My times are horrid atm, I've just booted into a stripped down kernel26rt and it's added about 5mins per frame it's doing 18mins/% which makes me want to cry.

I'll boot back to the stock Arch kernel i think. I need to get a True so i can get more out of this quad, If i add anymore voltage than what i'm at i can cook stuff

With SMP I'm getting about 11:25/frame x 2. I'm unimpressed with Linux. I'm relatively new to folding so I don't know of any past frustrations with either of the clients. It certainly seems like Windows SMP used to be terrible, forcing users go with Linux as a better alternative.

I think the issues with SMP have been fixed and now it smokes (especially with affinity changer). It's worth a try at least. It is user friendly very reliable. It we can get the three of us with quads to fold at least 20 WU's per week, we will be tough to beat.

I'm back at 13/% i haven't a clue what i did to that kernel to make it so slow. I can get plenty more speed out of this quad i just need better cooling and maybe do the voltmod to this mobo. I had to slow my ram down a little the other day aswell because it wasnt folding stable (it passed memtest though). What WU are you getting 11:25 on? I'm working on 3062's atm, 2653's are the best but i very rarely get them i had one the other day under biatchi2 and i had a 3062 for biatchi and the 2653 was a quicker and worth about the points. i think i have a screeny somewhere.

I get 11:20ish times on 2653. I get 2653 the majority of the time.

Whoa, Biatchi. Someone went a little XXX on the avy.

Anyway, I'm giving Arch one last shot tonight with another reformat. I won't be helping the team at all folding on WinSMP @ 254 pts.

If I cannot get back up we might need to consider a replacement.
