Gotta love that SMP client stuff. I mean, that machine on its own turns in 1760 ppd now (those 1760 pointers just take a bit over 24 hours). Need better cooling in that rig, then overclock it.... and they'll be in about 20 hours I hope.... screamin'!

Plus, the third core is getting some nice WUs lately... 292 pointers that take just over 8 hours a piece

I'll have to give this SMP thing a try!

What happened to born2killu? I must be out of the loop.

See here:

And the fun about the SMP client is that you can set it up in a virtual PC under Windows There is an excellent FAQ about it in the folding section.

Just look:
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...hp?s=&u=185955

If this keeps going at this rate, I'll be a top-5 folder with only 3 cores (!)

I'm putting out WUs on 1 core...
One question on the Virtual PC/Suse/F@H.. I read it through but I'm a little grey on this... is it loaded on XP OS as I percieve of am I just dense?

VMWare is installed in Windows XP. It's a Virtual PC, and acts like a separate PC within Windows (yes, including a, albeit limited, BIOS). You can start the Virtual PC and install a different OS on it

Thus, install the virtual PC under Windows, run it, and install Linux and the SMP client on the virtual PC.

Your main rig still runs windows, and you can do stuff in Windows while your virtual PC runs in the background. The main OS can even be 32-bit, even though the Linux distro for the SMP client is 64-bit.

Right now, I have 32-bit Win XP Pro, and the 64-bit Suse in the virtual PC. And the SMP client runs happily in it.

Finally, you run only one FAH client, since it utilizes all cores it can find (the number you have and assign to Linux in VMWare).

You'll need a dual core CPU which supports Virtualization technology (aka Vanderpool tech).

It reports as only one core to Stanford, but of course we're honest here

Duke, if you want to try it, I can retire one core if need be...

32bit XP with a VM/Linux 64 bit. that is sweet!
I wonder what would happen if you had 1 GUI running and 2 in VM/L at the same time? Sounds dumb I know, but if I do get the VM/L the GUI F@H would be paused while testing the 2 core VM/L set up

One last question, how would you pause the VM/L 2 core software if needed?

The SMP client uses both cores (console client in the Linux box under VMware), so I am pretty sure you'll need to pause/disable the GUI client...

I currently don't have access to the folding box (only one monitor right now, and my gf is using it... can't help it I am on the laptop right now. I think you can pause the VMWare server.. not sure what effect that has on the client though. I'll try at some point (of course when the progress is like 1% )

are you still looking for new members, i'm interested in joining

i've got a p4 1.6 running 24/7 and my sig rig running the smp client through a virtual system at least 16 hours per day

btw you can suspend the virtual system in vmware server... i dont think it would have any effect on the client
post #309 of 4093
yes you can.

I don't think we have recruited a member yet.. Duke will know for sure

If you want to put the E6600 SMP rig in the fold, then I can retire my third core if need be (16 hours SMP will definately beat a single core of an E6700...). You should be getting about 1000 ppd on that rig.. right?

Duke.. what's the deal right now?
