So what makes the Clawhammer a better core? why should I be shelling out the cash for one?

I don't know who told you that it was better but it's not compared to the newer san diego.

You shouldn't be.

Clawhammer is for Socket 754 AMD Motherboards, your current system is better considering it's 939 Pin, supports dual channel (on all boards), has better core architecture's, more Instruction Sets (SSE, SSE2, SSE3), etc.

Who told you that Clawhammer was a better core? And what'd they tell you it was better than?

Clawhammer is for 939 also but it's long discontinued. If you did manage to find one it would probably be more expensive.

they still had the 4000 939 version here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ubCategory=343 up until a few weeks ago almost got it till i read about the SanDiego. also lacks SSE3 instructions, but I have to say "Clawhammer" sounds much more intimidating than "San Diego".

No, Venus core (opteron's) are the best out right now, they (somtimes) overclock better than San Diego's and Venices (not venus), and get lower temperatures.

Depending on how much you want to spend, opteron's prices vary from as low as $170 to as high as $330. If you want my suggestion, I think you should get the

AMD Opteron 146 [$211] - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103598

San Diego core is WAY better than the Clawhammer core, so i would suggest the San diego core or Venice core, both are ver nice

Not all Opterons overclock good, The new 3700 SD are very good overclockers at the moment.

Do they run as low (temperature wise) as opterons? That's the only reason I would really suggest an Venus over a SD.
