Opterons don't really run cooler or hotter, it depends on the batch etc. This has been debated for a long time (whether they run cooler or hotter) and the debate seems to be inconclusive.

If you can afford I would get the 4000 San Diego it has a higher multiplier and is basically a FX55 and will usually overclock to FX57 speeds. If you want to save some money than a 3700 San Diego is great too; they can overclock easily to FX57 speeds (mostly) and run cool. I would suggest retail over OEM just for the 3 year warranty. Venice are great overclockers also but have 512k L2 cache versus the San Diego 1mb L2.

I wouldn't go with the 4000, to me it's just not worth the money for a multi that's only a bit higher.
