ATI Tray Tool overclocking

Thread Starter
I've heard that ATI Tray Tool isn't very good for overclocking, but I would like to use it within the omega drivers. What's wrong with it for a start and why does it read my memory speed as either 66 or 44MHz?

I have an x1800 xt 512mb. Overdrive is still active at the moment but I don't see how that should cause it to read those speeds. Finding the highest mem speed comes up at 66MHz aswell. Any advice?

That is a little weird, is the program still doing the auto overclocking for you and getting good results. If so then don't worry about it too much.

How do you let it auto overclock? It will only find the max mem as 66MHz and it goes all weird when I try and make it find a max gpu

OK you go to Hardware, Overclocking settings, then open up the 3D render and press find max for GPU\\MEM, let it run for a while and see how it goes.

EDIT: you went offline, did you crash it??^^^^

It just locked up on the gpu one without properly testing it. After ten seconds test at 600MHz (lower than default) the speed bar and apply button just kept flickering and it locked
I wish the omega drivers would use ATI Tool rather than tray tool.

You might want to do a re-install of your drivers to make sure they are working properly. Does the vid card clock OK when using ATI-Tool? If so then you may have some issues with the Omega drivers then.

I've tried my graphics card on standard catalyst 6.3's with ATI Tray Tool in a completely different system (DFI mobo, 3500+ 64) and had exactly the same problem there so I doubt it's the drivers. I wonder if it's the graphics card, maybe HIS have odd BIOS in it?

Same problem with tray tool as regards mem readings.Gave up and went back to CCC.Search of a few other x1800xt threads at TechPowerUp! and AnandTech forums to name but 2 reveal lot of people doing same, seems hardly any having success with tray tool, many having probs. with ati tool(not showing artifacts, clocks keep going up and up....and up etc)).

The only thing wrong with ati tray tools is the artifact scanner. It just keeps going and going but doesn't detect the artifacts. Then when you go to play a game or run ati tool you get artifacts. So use ati tool to find your maxes and use ati tray tools to set them.
