Can I mix and match graphics cards?

In order to provide optimal symmetric scaling, SLI Technology requires the NVIDIA GPU to match. For example, a GeForce 7800 GTX must be paired with another GeForce 7800 GTX. Likewise, a GeForce 6600 GT must be paired with another GeForce 6600 GT. However, using the latest Release 80 Graphics Drivers, NVIDIA GPUs sold by different manufacturers can be used together in SLI Mode. For example, a GeForce 7800 GT from vendor ABC can be matched with a GeForce 7800 GT from vendor XYZ. Can I mix and match graphics cards is one of them is Overclocked by the Manufacturer?
Yes. A GeForce 7800 GTX that is overclocked (for example BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC) can be mixed with a standard clock GeForce 7800 GTX.
Can I mix and match graphics cards with different sizes of memory?
While it is not recommended, NVIDIA does offer this flexibility using Coolbits. When purchasing a second graphics card, you should try to match the memory size so that you are ensured full value and performance from your purchase. For example, if your first card is a GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory, you should purchase a second GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory. However, using Coolbits (value set to 18), customers can force both of the cards to use the lower of the two memory sizes and operate together in SLI Mode. When dissimilar memory sizes are enabled to work together using Coolbits, the effective memory size for each card becomes the smaller of the two memory sizes. Instructions to enable this feature can be found here.

Oh ok well i didnt have the release 80 drivers when I got my sli, i tried my bfg 6600gt, and and evga one and it didnt work saying "your system is not compatible with sli" so i took back by evga one and got another bfg one and it said "Your system is compampatible with sli click here to enable it"

there seems to be alot of confusion about mixing models.

it does sound right that you cant mix the manufactures but i did see one review were it had been done.

also if it is possible do you think i could overclock a
Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800GT "Goes Like Hell" 512MB

to the same clock speeds etc as my xfx7800gtx 512 xxx

i have no plans to overclock my xfx7800gtx 512 iand im not sure if i can

would be interested to see if anyone has tho

if it is the same 7800 xxx as yours is yes, just your xfx has already been overclocked slightly to make it look better among other companies, so that card could be overclocked to be the exact same

www.chillblast.com is a good UK site. Dont think they have any 512 7800GTX's though. But to all you fellow UK guys, Chillblast.com is an excellent site, awesome customer service, very friendly. HIGHLY recommended.

a 7900GTX 512 will destroy a 7800GTX 512. the core and mem clocks arent massively higher, but it runs cooler, and the shader processor runs faster.

and some other ****, but in the end, 7900GTX = way greater than 7800GTX

If you use 2 cards with different speeds, they will both run as fast as the slowest card (only as strong as the weakest link).

but both cards must be same core. (cant use a 7900 with a 7800, or a 7600 with a 7800). so you need another 7800GTX 512, although i dont think it has to be an XFX, but if they are identical, it will work better.

Yes when they are put as only one card but in sli the 7800gtx will come out better, than with only 1 7900

to be honest i might go 7800 sli but im not going to buy a 7900.

i will wait till there next card comes out.

iam getting aroung 90 FPS playing BF2 all max settings

and a 7900 might get me 100+ but i wont see much difference.

Thats like saying my cars faster than yours! just for some1 to reply, but if i strap a jet fighter to my car it will be faster!

of course 2x 7800GTX's will be better than1 7900GTX...

but 2x 7900GTX 512's in SLi will have an even bigger gain over 2x 7800GTX 512's in SLi.

EDIT: TRIPLE POST! the edit button is there for a reason, use it please.

EDIT2: Please fill out your system spec in the User CP =)

If you get 90FPS+ on FB2 with all high settings, then why the frik would you need SLi?! LMAO

I barely get 32FPS with low/low medium settings with my 6200... Although by next friday my BFG7900GTX 512 will be here =)

EDIT3: UK GUYS GET YOU 7900gtx 512 @ WWW.CHILLBLAST.COM - STOCK ARRIVING NEXT WEEK! - email them for more info
