HT (2 instance; 1 processor) Folding Q's

Thread Starter
Alright, these questions consern folding with 2 instances on one hyperthreaded processor, using the 5.04beta console only version of FAH.

1) Is there any way to make the console version run in the background, or with only a systray icon, instead of in the taskbar?

2) My console dialog has only displayed "Completed 0 of 10000000 steps (0)", but is using 49% of both processors (physical and non). On the graphical version (running 1 instance), it would have finished a few by now. Is this normal?

You can run the -config flag on the console version and set it to run as a service. That will keep the console out of sight.

Each WU is different, so it's entirely possible that the one you have now is running runs more slowly than others you have had. If it hasn't moved by the time you read this, there's definitely a problem. I'd suggest using FahMon to monitor your folding progress. There's a FAQ linked in my sig with more information.

There's also a FAQ in my sig about why running two instances on an HT machine is not a good idea. I suggest you take a read through that and consider what it says.

Alright, new problem:

Whenever I set the machine ID in one, it changes in both. I think this is because they're referencing the same config file. I have the -config and -local flags set, and I have the two clients in two different folders.
C:/Program Files/Folding@Home/FAH1/
C:/Program Files/Folding@Home/FAH2/

What can I do to give them seperate machine IDs?

make a shortcut for both folding programes. change the target by adding -config after the " and one space after. change the machine for the first one then the second one. i think ill make a sticky with lots of screen shots.

I've done this, but whenever I re-open the programs, they re-set themselves to whichever the last machine ID I input.

So if I set the first one's machine ID to 1 and the second's machine ID to 2, when I restart they're both set to 2.
And if I set the first one's machine ID to 2 and the second's machine ID to 1, when I restart they're both set to 1.

And I'm sure the target path in the two shortcuts is to two different clients.
