Windows 64-bit edition?

Thread Starter
Hello, would Windows 64-bit edition be the ideal choice for a new build using an AMD 3700+. Yes, I realize that Vista is coming out, but I'm not going to get it yet. Please ignore my specs below, as I am building a computer soon.

I haven't seen many Windows 64-bit OS in many people's specs. I'm just wonerding why that is? Is it really buggy or something? Thanks!

Yeah its pretty buggy and not many applications are compatible with it yet, including pretty much all games.
Stick with Windows xp home/pro.

I just built a new system and I'm running Windows x64. Depending on your things add (printer, scanner, etc.), it's hard to find some drivers that work. So far I love x64. There aren't many programs that take advantage of it yet. When Vistat comes out, there should be more programs and drivers to come. Some older 16 bit programs won't work on x64. Hope this helps.

All games I play work. Silkroad, Oblivian, Fear, CS Source, CS 1.6, Day of Defeat.

I have a dual boot setup and have both 64 and 32 bit XP. I must tell you that for right now, the 32 bit is the way to go. I had almost no driver issues and all the games I play (HL2 and CS:S) work fine and even have 64 bit versons available. The reason I had no driver issues was due to having an nVidia chipset and GPU and an HP printer. I have noticed however, not many of my other applications work correctly. Even if i force them to run in 32 bit XP mode per the compatibility tab. I would stick with 32 bit XP until Vista comes out IMO.

I tried x64 and I liked it, firefox has a great 64bit beta out the only problem was that I had to do a driver workaround to get my photoprinter to work, and then I couldn't access the high resolutions... so it was basically a waste of a photo printer. Also, my scanner wouldn't work. so I switched back to regular pro
