19'' gaming lcd? wich one!

Hi!

I'm looking for a good 19'' gaming LCD for my brother! I really loves samsung's monitor and I was actually loocking for a syncmaster 930B. But it seems that this monitor have been replaceby the new syncmaster 920N... I can't find any reviews of this one, here the specs:

http://www.samsung.com/Products/Moni...9MJAKBZXAA.asp

But it doesn't look to be a really good gaming monitor, 8ms and no digital/DVI connection

I was also looking for a BenQ FP93GX wich a don't know anything about but seems to have great reviews.

These monitor have both 3 years warrenty in canada that's why I put them first. If I chose to go with one year warrenty I'll go with the Viewsonic VX922 or VX924.

What's you though about these monitor which one should I choose, or maybe there is a better choice??? But please No DELL I don't want to order online.

thanks!

I'm in the market as well. I've seen the samsung and viewsonic on display and prefer the viewsonic vx922. In fact, I'' likely pick it up after I get my new RAM. I hate to replace my NEC CRT as the picture is fantastic but LCD's are just getting better and better.

The Viewsonic LCD's are the way to go. They are the highest quality for the price. My dad bought this one and it works like a dream! It can take 1600*1200 @ 60Hz, I haven't tried 75Hz, yet, but it does 1280*1024 @ 75Hz...

Zero dead pixels on ours.
But if you really think you need the 2ms, go for the VX922.

Browsing the net, text, dvd playback.... I told my brother yesterday that the viewsonic VX922 seemed to be the choice but I just want to be shure.?

The Syncmaster 930B (which I own) is extremely good for gaming. I have a really nice Viewsonic CRT (p95f+b) and I like this LCD way more. The difference between 8ms and the instant response on my CRT might as well not even exist. Plus, the 930B has a DVI jack and a VGA jack, so either will work (the DVI looks fantastic). I prefer its 1280 x 1024 resolution over one with a 1600 x 1200 resolution because an LCD run in any mode other than its native resolution looks pretty bad, so if you had a new game and had to run it on a 1600 x 1200 res as opposed to 1280 x 1024 then you might face serious performance impacts. I run all of my games in 1280 x 1024 (even on my CRT) so I prefer that anyway, but you may have a comp that can handel the higher res. All I'm saying is 1280 x 1024 looks just as good (IMO) as 1600 x 1200. I do believe that the 930B is much cheaper now too. I got it about a month after it came out and it arrived with no dead pixels. You should read everything everyone alse said, but I just wanted you to have another opinion on the 930B.

On another note, you should know that I've had the 930 for five months now and it has been great the whole time. Just keep in mind that it has very bad height adjustment, so if that is an issue for you, consider another panel. Good luck finding the right match.

the problem with quoting response time from different vendors in regards to comparisons is that they will market it differently then others. while people get hyped up over the 2ms response time, for example, what is that response time measuring? black to white, or grey to grey?

i'm not taking a jab at any particular vendor, i just think that there needs to be a unified way of measuring response times so marketing departments don't have to get so creative when they're pushing a selling point.

what i look for in an LCD are the following and in no particular order.

Input type
Aspect Ratio
Brightness
Color Depth
Response time
Contrast Ratio
Price

to a lesser extent, i would also consider viewing angles and if it has Component hookups, or is a USB hub.

I have the Hyundai L90D+ and I think it is a fantastic LCD. Might want to look into getting that.

thanks guys for all you advice. I'm not yet totally decided between the Viewsonic VX922 or the samsung 930B. But according to your comment and the reviews I read, both are great monitor so i'm shure to get something good with one of these picks.

thanks all!
