What's a stable overclock for folding? I got my E6300 to 3080 mhz and it's 30+ minutes stable on Orthos and runs Superpi and 3dmark 06 with no problems...

Vanilla you're building my rig >.<

Just so you know, with a TTBT I think I'm being limited only by my RAM which has trouble with FSB over 440 mhz...

Well there won't be native Linux Folding, because my HD won't let me re-partition. That's OK, I'll keep folding SMP on windows, but won't take time off for frivolous video encoding

@ Vanilla: Is it me or is that ram really cheap? Would you sell your old rig? I mean, are you some kind of performance junkie ? Looks like a good build, and the ram looks really cheap too... though if you do end up with an E6300, remember that it's a ***** to OC the RAM... you could save a couple of bucks and go for an E4300, easier on the RAM. As far as I know only expensive RAM lets you go 1000MHz+... though there was an article in the news section...:

http://www.overclock.net/news-overcl...dr2-800-a.html

and the winner:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220144 (one HELL of a deal with the 50 dolar MIR)

@jigglylizard: So long as your Work Units don't fail, and that your processor is running at safe temperatures, you're good to go.

EDIT: Congratz on the purchase... what proc are you going to use?

Gratz!

How will I know if my WU are failing? You mean an error?

Processor running at 41-43 Celsius on load
post #367 of 637
If in the command window you get a message that says your core shut down, before a WU finished, might indicate that your CPU made an error, and your OC isn't stable.

Yes Jimmy, I'm a OC-junkie. Actually, I've been wanting to get a second rig built since I got a 40" LCD. I have my current setup hooked up to it, but the case is too loud and too bright for a HTPC setup.

That RAM is a helluva deal IMO. I've read many reviews that people reported running them at 1000mhz with the same 4-4-3-5 timings.

I think I'm pretty well set on the E6300 unless I can talk myself into spending more.

Nice one with the HTPC. So you'd put the new mobo, ram and processor in your old case and put the E6300 to fold? or keep the AMD for folding? I doubt you really need the E6300's power for an HTPC, unless of course you plan on running it stock and having it quiet...

I haven't decided yet. The HTPC will also be my gaming rig, but the Opty is still a damn good gaming CPU. Either way, the E6300 will be folding w/SMP.
